Another beautiful and sunny day with high 70's temps. Great 30 mile ride at the MUP until the Army Corp of Engineers started cutting down and chipping trees where they are going to build a levy. The sinuses went haywire and made the last part of the ride pretty miserable. And to top it off, I didn't take my Zyrtec this morning, so that compounded the hay fever problem.

Temp in the high 40's and I decided no windbreaker today. Loaded the bike and did some necessary morning running around, bank, hair-cut, etc., then drove to Founders Park. There are two walking/biking trails which have connections so I can vary my route, though they are only about 1.35 miles total. Did 8.2 miles on them with some heavy head wind. I was going to try to do more but the wind discouraged me. May try to find another trail for tomorrow.

Sadly no, 25 to 50 mph. winds, 30F temps, not a FUN day to ride a bike!
Stayed home and "re-braced" my utility trailer, (car free), it's been needing a revamp from my 1st. rework in 2008 for a while. Got all the "cutting and drilling" done this morning, reassembled but I'll have to wait for a WARMER, less WINDY day to "paint"!

Out on the trail today still getting use to the new bikes. We did a 32 mile ride and another stop for a fresh strawberry shake. At this rate instead of losing weight... well you know. Received the UpStands today quickly put on the bikes. What a great little invention. I put a pic on my tread in the hybrid section if you're interested in seeing it.

First ride this year, and first ride in 18 days.... it was time!!! Not too far (25 miles), not too fast (well, 'cept for that effortless 18.x MPH mile with the tailwind), but the weather was great. We had a 73F blue sky day sandwiched between days of rain and forecast days of rain. I took the afternoon off and went for a ride.

Now it will rain for a week. Again. Oh well.

You gonna eat that?
Finally did my first fixed gear ride of 2013. 28 miles to Downtown and back.

Great ride on the city bike:
37 miles on the rice field roads in and out of a very light rain.
Passed a little almost dead dog like a month old on the side of the raod so I had to pick it up and take it to the Vet and spend all the money I had with me to save it, get it shots and special dog food for the mange and special soap, I hope he lives.
If he makes it I will take him back to the Vet next Saturday for more shots and I will have a forth dog. (well guarded house)

The wife's flight was an hour late getting in last night so I didn't get to bed until almost 1:00 AM. Dog woke me up early this morning, so not much sleep and 12-16 mph winds made for a worn out, 15 mile, morning ride today. It started off as a normal ride but after the first seven miles, I realized that riding my normal pace wasn't going to cut it. I'm definitely going to get a nap in this afternoon.

Another stellar day in north central FL, weather in the high 70's - low 80's. We got out as soon as the dense fog burned off and rode for 30 miles. Even got a chance to try the new UpStands for a quick pit stop.

Warm 40 to 50f weather made for a nice 35 mile ride this morning. I took out the Monstercross bike and mixed some gravel with the road work.

Gentle, peaceful 19.95 mile cruise on the MUP. Biking just the westernmost section meant breathing room and quiet sections, not being crowded shoulder to shoulder with the herds of humanity in the heavily populated eastern section out on the trail enjoying the unusual 50+ degrees. Was nice to see lots of families biking with adorable little kids. So many cute dogs being walked, and older couples enjoying a slow stroll in the warmth along the peaceful pathway.
Everyone so ready to offer a smile and a friendly wave and hello.
It was so spirit lifting.

It was cold (10-14°F), windy (10-18 MPH), and icy, but I've barely been able to ride for the last 3 weeks (travel, etc.) and I can feel my fitness draining away, so I was determined to get out and ride. I did a standard 21 mile loop down and up the Mississippi river. The river surface is frozen in Minneapolis, but not downstream in Saint Paul. Anyway, it wasn't the most enjoyable ride ever, but I'm sure glad that I was able to ride. I wasn't really cold, though at times the frozen breath forming on my balaclava was cold against my chin. Probably averaged 13 MPH on the heavy winter bike..
A friend of a friend posted on FB that she was inside riding rollers because it's been down in the 50s in Phoenix. If she only knew.

Cincinnati, Jan. 12, 66 degrees = BIKE RIDE
All week they have been predicting a nice warm up with the warmest day being today. Knowing how well they do their predicting I figured it would never happen. I wake at 8:00am up look outside and the ground is wet but it's already 54 degrees but the wife wants to go to our favorite rail trail which is 45 minutes away. Even thought the bikes are going to get filthy on the back of the Jeep and the trail there was never any doubt that we were going. The last time we went there was the Saturday before Christmas and our last ride of any kind was a week after that. Been walking, planks and some weight training in the down time but it was great to get out there in the middle of January. The trail was very wet and there was a lot of small sticks and twigs and such making it a little rougher than normal but, it was still a great ride. Heavy rain tonight and tomorrow and then back to winter. Looks like I will have plenty of time to clean the bikes.

I did a nice leisurely trail ride on the Big Creek Greenway. It was an amazing 72 degrees, no rain or wind, such a beautiful day that it was severely crowded. Slow, a bit tricky between all the kids and casual fair-weather cyclists and those foolishly trying to get a workout in, weaving around them, so although the 20 miles shorter than I like it seemed like more. I stopped at Burger King for a couple of burgers & fries, a reward I prefer to pie (sorry 50 plus'ers). I'd have ridden more but it was getting late and we had company at home that I was neglecting ...

Did 40 miles in the Oakland hills. The official group ride this morning was cancelled due to cold (30 degrees in the morning) but about a half dozen of us showed up any way and had a nice sunny ride up tunnel. We ended our uphill portion with a ride up volmer peak ( well most of us anyway, I clipped out at the steepest section) . From the top there were great views all the way to the Sierras. A great day all around.

65 miles in central MD (Boyds, around Sugarloaf, Dickerson and back). It wasn't nearly as warm as it was supposed to be, and the fog didn't burn off until almost 11 am. It was so damp that the roads were wet almost the entire day. Still it was a pretty good day for January.
Best thing is that I left enough in the tank that I should be able to get in another good long ride on Sunday, when it's supposed to be near 70

Another April day here in Northern Florida... oh wait it's only January. We got in a 30 mile ride on the local rail trail. What with all the extra traffic on the weekends and all. What a bummer having to share the trail... Not really.
