Just a short test ride after a good cleaning, lubing and minor adjustments.
Heading out for a night ride when the breeze from the east subsides.

Today was just a twinge under 30 miles on the tandem. We had an extensive music practice this morning for a performance of a complex piece tomorrow morning, so today's ride got a late start.

I finished the ride I had to cut short a couple of weeks ago when I broke a spoke. 103 miles, 9.5K of climbing. This is a big loop starting at Big Meadows on Skyline Drive, south down from Swift Run Gap to Stanardsville, Madison, Syria, Sperryville, and then the big climb back home. Most of the climbing was in the last 20 miles.

Was out last Thursday on a ride taking in a MUP type trail which used to be very muddy and rutted and ideal for MTBs.
But some Council in their wisdom have now decided to tarmac it overm presumably to make it more disabled user friendly so at present it is very churned up and only half done.
We started out with 5 of us but the others had been on a Bike Maintenance Course and one had a Specialized 29er (cant remember the make).
The instructor told him his chain was too slack and took some links out to tighten it. The rider's wife thought it was too tight and maybe he should put a couple of links back in but he said no it was fine.
We had just started our ride and had to power up a steep slope, Jason was behind me and blew his horn for us to stop, as his chain had snapped.
Unfortunately none of us had a proper link remover tool so we couldnt remove the link which had bent right out of shape and he and his wife had to go home as it couldnt be repaired.
That left 3 of us to go on and we rode on a combination of tarmac, dried muddy surface and crushed limestone which was very hard to ride on, forcing us onto the trail meant for horses which we were probably not meant to ride on.
After that it became just a dirt track.
We had discussed the benefits of light, modern 29er bikes and everyone said how heavy mine was which was true but when we hit the dirt I decided to see how fast I really coould go and motored off in front, eventually making 15 mph which is fast for me
I stopped eventually at a bridge and waited for the other two to catch up, out of breath and wondering what I had for dinner as I had a heavy rucksack on and rode a heavy bike.
I said see she can go lol
After a coffee at Mc Donalds we rode back along a canal towpath in the gathering dark, tho one rider had a flat by the time we got back.
About 10 miles in all in nice warm weather.

A great 32 mile ride with my Sunday ride group. Perfect weather with just enough wind to keep you cool for the length of the ride.

24 windy blustery miles on Friday with very cool conditions. 24 mph north winds with 30 mph gust and 59° temperatures. Had been of the bike for five days and the legs didn't want to cooperate for quite a while.
30 miles this evening on the local bike paths under much better conditions. Only 5 mph winds and overcast skies. Legs felt a lot better and the average speed on the computer showed a big improvement.
Looks more dicey weather out here on the prairie and I will probably have to work in rides when I can around thunderstorms. Will hit the gym on days when I can't get out on the bike.

Did 75 miles of the Grizzly Peak Century. Decided to cut it short after I gloriously forgot to unclip at one of the rest stops in front of about 100 riders. I was smart though and cushioned the fall with my knee.

I had a pretty hard ride yesterday, so I wanted to stay closer to home. I ended up with another 100 mile ride over into Maryland, and back into Virginia. I was surprised to see it added up to about 5.4K of climbing. There were some steep sections, but mainly this was all just rollers:

These are my first back-to-back century rides of the year. As usual the most harrowing parts of the whole ride were on the bike paths (the W&OD in Virginia, and the Capital Crescent Trail in DC and Maryland.)
I've switched to the Fizik Antares saddle, and far I'm pretty happy with it. I may have found "the one."

25 miles this early AM, 0400, before getting ready for a sub assignment.
Looks like I'll be using the trainer the rest of the week before the century on Saturday--rain, rain, rain. Hopefully the projected scattered thunderstorms in the Saturday forecast will change--hmm, aluminum(or aluminium for my UK friends) bike and lightening...not a good combo.

The extended weather has the roads near my house snow covered so drove down the hill and did my 4 mile loop. Temp at the university was 39 but the wind was ice cold and strong. Broke down and got some used lake winter boots which kept my feet warm, neoprene booties over my regular shoes wasn't working too well. Hard to imagine that last year we had temps in the high 50's but this year is a record breaker, I still have two feet of snow in my yard.

Nice 33 mile ride with fairly strong winds. New medication is kicking my butt. Can't stop being tired and the legs felt like cement blocks today. New, lower dosage arrives tomorrow, so hopefully that will get me back to normal.

5 Km uphill to work and 15 Km home on the shared trail. Temp: +26 Celsius and more cyclists than joggers & dog walkers on the trail for the first time this spring.

16 miles feeling out of it.Don't know why.Couple of riders passed me.No response from me. Finally at the end of the ride I attacked 2 riders ahead of me.Caught and passed them.Gave me some exercise.Maybe it was the 2 cheese burgers at at lunch.

18 miles today after work with no wind! (Are we still in Kansas Toto?) Was going to put in more but was visited by the flat fairy for the second time this year. Still all in all a good ride.
