Rode 66.5 miles at the Tour de Leaves or should I say the Tour de Freeze. NealH and I started in a light rain with temps in the mid 40s but the day got colder as we added miles. It was a figure eight course and I think more than half chose to head to the barn at the halfway point. The rain stopped when the wind picked up to a steady 15mph and the temp fell into what felt like the upper 30s. Actually, with the exception of my very cold damp feet, I was extremely comfortable. But my left foot in particular was really cold. We took most of the ride fairly easy given the wet roads were covered in wet leaves and finished with a 4:30 ride time with 5200' of climbing in just over 66 miles. This ride will probably have to count for my Bday ride as I'll be out of town next weekend.

Did a nice 44 miles today. Started out with the A group, dropped at about the 20 mi mark after pulling at 25+. Just couldn't get the 1948 "fuel pump and carborator" to keep up with the young whipper-snappers. Stopped at the mid way meet up point and picked up the B group. Finished the ride at a comfortable 19 -22.

Should be the last of the Hot and Humid as a cold front is coming thru today. Tomorrow it won't get out of the 70s. Heaven is here!

53 minutes of muddy cyclo cross racing today. Finished 26 of 41 finishers with 51 entered in the B race.

It was cool and very windy today. I rode over to a very hilly development nearby and made a couple of laps going up the biggest hill each time. The houses block the wind pretty good but it was still hard going up a steep hill straight into the wind. Mrs. RoMad wanted to go shopping in Ocala so I cut my ride short so I could enjoy hanging out in several stores waiting for her to shop.

Checked the weather channel and didn't see green so I grabbed my gear and started to put on my layers cause it was cool,52 deg, made it to the jump off point pretty breezy, and cloudy no rain.
Hauled south for about 15 and headed north-east into a stiff wind but was still rolling and then the drizzle started, now I can handle being a little cold but this drizzle,stuff, is worse the flying monkeys up your ars.
So I reached my turnaround and started my usual return trek and then it really started to lightly rain, instant damp outer gear and my shoes sucked up a pint of moisture into my sock that sort of felt all sticky..:notamused:
Me gloves and glove liners were getting damp as was my arms thru three layers .I really should have worn a outer rain gear jacket...
I finally made it back to the car, hauled off the helmet and hood and ran into the LBS for a cup of hot coffee. it was so good , as I thawed out a bit.:love:
Had to run the heat and AC in the car to keep the windows from fogging up, due to excess moisture and body heat.

Goggle "cyclocross racing" on U tube. It is a blast, relaxed racing atmosphere, ride as hard as you want/can push yourself, at times death defying and something you will want to again next weekend.:D

On the tandem with cgallagh, some BFers met up to ride Foxy's Fall Century, beginning and ending in Davis. Quintessential autumn day, 96 miles, 5:55 saddle time. We hung back to keep our slower friends in sight, and really enjoyed the ride and the company. Plenty of smiles per mile.

Eight of us rode in the first Tour de Rocklin (CA), benefitting technology in the schools. The route was designed to go by 3 high schools, 8 grammar and elem schools, the district office, etc etc. It was 40 miles confined in 12 square miles of neighborhoods. The route map looks like someone dropped spaghetti on a map. We "toured" at a very relaxed 12.2 mph, stopped at all three rest stops and had a good time. By riding from home and back, we made it a 50-miler. (That's me with helmet in hand.)

Riding a tandem on flat century rides is cheating. That said, I like drafting them. :thumb:

We had >3800' of climbing. That's not flat, in my book.

Unlike the family ride, which had, I dunno, maybe 50'? ;p

We did it on the tandem, too, but the only one on our wheel was my stoker's former classmate. It was actually a fun ride with the two teenagers. Yeah, if you want to get rid of wheelsuckers, just do a family ride. :thumb:

1.5 hours easy in the rain on Saturday, with a 1 hour run in the PM. Of course, the rain cleared up and the sun came out after I finished my ride:cry:

4 hours scheduled for today, Sunday.

We are enjoying beautiful clear skies and air this fall. 2 hour hard ride saturday and 4 hour medium sunday, both forestroads on my CX bike.

Someday I'll get to do a ride like that. The least climbing I've ever had on a century was a true 5000' and that felt "flat". It took 5:30 ride time. I'm sure on a tandem you easily do it in that time if you wanted to because there were no long climbs just many smaller "rollers".

My friend who was supposed to do a 200k permanent with me yesterday backed out, so I left solo from my driveway at 8:00 am and rode 105.3 miles, doing a loop on mostly small county roads through Johnson County and Hill County, making stops in Alvarado, Covington, and Godley. That gave me over 200 miles for the week, so I'm taking a day off today.

Walked the dogs 4 miles and let them do the chasing of jackrabbits and flushing of pheasant.

I took a 2+ hr. nap.

Being lazy has felt as satisfying as a ride. We've racked up 582 miles in 10 of the last 14 days, so I'm really digging the lazy. :thumb:

71 flat miles. Found a working cell phone, sun glasses and a Swiss Army Knife.
Temps 56* to 70* with 14 mph winds.

67 miles. Started at 43F and ended in the mid 50's. The course was roughly triangular. The wind picked up on one leg with a nice tailwind. The last leg was into a 15 to 20 mph wind and seemingly endless rollers. Never did like the wind much... And now I don't like rollers much either.

100K in 4 hours today. It was grey and cloudy so ride was more joy of being out there then scenic. Did the first 1:45 with a friend and the rest on my own.

I'll put it in a woman's perspective. My wife said that next time I needed to take a hose to my kit before I bring it into our home. She is still a little ticked because after two washing machine cycles there is still some sand in the bottom of the machine. The mud and sand were caked to my lower legs at the end of the race, I peeled it off when it dried.:D

These images were early in the race. The first time "off the cliff" produced a pucker factor of around 9. It kept getting muddier as the race progressed. They made a "maze of mud" on a baseball infield that took about 1.5 minutes to get through. The slimy, slippery quicksand was the hardest thing I've ever done on a bike x 5 laps through.:eek:
