Haven't been on for a bit. I rode Friday, 26 miles, yesterday, 30 miles, and this early AM but only did 19 miles. Only 19 miles you may wonder. Well, at the 15 mile mark, my right brifter (rear)derailleur cable broke. I moved the chain to the small front ring and rode back home(4 miles). Had to hold the left shifter a bit so the front derailleur didn't rub the chain. Fun. Fortunately, it's supposed to rain tomorrow so I wouldn't be riding anyway. I'll take it to the LBS and have them fix it.

whoo-hoo best avg. spd YTD for my normal 16-mile route that includes 1426 vertical feet. 14.6mph. I know that's not a great feat for many of you, but for this old fat guy, it's pretty good.

Yesterday, NealH and I left the Folk Art Center on the BRP near Asheville, NC early AM for a ride up to the top of Mt Mitchell. Unfortunately the weather had different plans. When we got up to the ridge at 5600' the fog was too thick to safely continue onto the top. We turned around ending with 37 miles and 3800' of climbing. 2:50 ride time. Basically 18.5 miles up and the same back down.
This morning we rode one of our favorite standard routes, the Pigeon Loop out of Bethel, NC. The weather forecast was unsettled at best, however we had great conditions for our ride. The humidity was quite high though temps were comfortable. We finished with 44.5 miles and 3900' of climbing in 3:12 ride time. Starting at the low point instead of near the high point of the ride gave us a nice 5 mile warmup before the 2700' climb up to the BRP.

Finally got a morning with no rain and a very nice 42 mile ride. I'm missing my riding partner, Frank, because Sunday's are normally our 66 mile rides. Hoping his shoulder heals soon.

47 miles with 4200' of climbing. It's a good thing the climb was first up since it got pretty warm the last 1/2 of the ride. Other than the warming temperatures the weather was pretty darn good.

Thanks for the welcome! I bought this '02 Trek 520 about 1 month ago. I'm loving it so far. yes, Central Oregon is a beautiful place to live and ride! Anybody here use MapMyRide/Fitness to track mileage, etc? I like this forum and this particular thread keeps me accountable and motivated. Are there any "online ride clubs" here, or is that the function of this forum? Anybody else here live in Central Oregon?

Twelve tandem miles today, including the same hill twice and a second hill once. (Both small local climbs. Hilly ride near Metamora, IN next week and trying to be ready.)
Wish I could include distant mountains in pics I take in Central IN!

Decided I needed a change of pace option for the winter, so on Friday I bought a Cannondale F29 29-er bike. This is gonna be fun.
I did a 31-mile ride out my door and back, most of it on the Wakefield Park/Lake Accotink section of the Cross-County Trail here in Fairfax county. I stayed on the regular path mostly, not trying any of the single-track stuff. That's for later after I figure out how to use the gears

28 miles this morning with a friend: https://www.sportstracklive.com/track...g/1176208/full
Very simliar route to Saturday's ride, since our other favorite route is undergoing road repairs. I'm going to check out a new one this afternoon. Good ride.

Did a 100 mile Potomac Pedalers club ride from Frederick, MD up to Gettysburg.
https://connect.garmin.com/activity/368289910
It should have been a relatively easy ride, and it was. But I got the worst leg cramps of all time. I guess it was the heat and the humidity. I thought I was keeping well hydrated, but maybe I was losing too much salt or something. It was horrible. Every muscle group I had on my legs was cramping up on every pedal stroke. I couldn't even stand up over short climbs because my quads would lock up tight and almost throw me off the bike.

70 miles with 3800 ft of climbing. I have not ridden in about 10 days and with a week long tour looming I was wondering how my legs would feel. Other than being a few pounds heavier than I'd like everything seemed okay.

You just never know about the weather around Mitchell do you.......the last time I did that stretch there were some pretty rough spots in the pavement. Have they ever done any resurfacing to improve any of that on that section? That's one of the things I really like about the 30 mile stretch we did on the Breakaway. The pavement is really nice. Less traffic maybe??
