Drove to Greensboro and did their annual Polar Bear Ride. More than 200 riders showed up. Good weather----cloudy with temps in the 40s and low 50s with moderate, manageable wind. I did the metric century option which was their longest route. Fell off the really fast guys after a bit and then sat in with a group of about 30 riders. Nice ride---flatter than what I've been riding (about 2800 ft of climbing) and folks really backed off the pace on what hills there were so the group would stay together. Averaged right at 19 mph. Interestingly there were no rest stops but after doing the 100 milers I had not planned to stop anyway. Nice way to start the year. I have 3 of these Polar Bears within 10 days of each other.

Did 19 mi around town with one break. Temps were steady at 32 F, no sun, snow coming tonight. Also, did a spin class this morning and 10 mi on the gym bikes.
Starting today, I'm going to count my indoor and outdoor mileage totals separately because the type of cycling is just so different.

Recovering today but a great 46 mi ride yesterday to and from the beach with my son and 8 year old grandson riding a tandem alongside. I do like to see kids with an interest in cycling. About 60 mi. on 12/30 with some speed work by jumping in with groups on Pacific Coast Highway. the weather is weird but great: 40's at 8 in the morning giving way to the 70's by 10 or 11.

70 miles in central MD, from Rileys Lock on the Potomac up to Urbana and back via Buckeystown, Jefferson, and Dickerson. Sunny and cold-ish at mostly the low 30s. Lots of ice on the roads from the frozen rain runoff. Had to get off and walk over icy patches several times. I let the battery on my electronic shifting get low, so I lost the use of my front derailleur for the last 25 miles. Why do I always do that?

Not today, it's snowing. Yesterday I rode an easy 20 miles on the bike path. Temps in mid 20s F leaving the house and just at the freezing mark toward the end. Near the end I heard loud whooping and hollering by the town beach on Narragansett Bay. I rode ever and there were masses of people out for their Polar Bear swim. I had forgotten all about it. I so wanted to swim in freezing temps but arrived too late.

26 miles today. Feel fortunate since rain held off. I even did 2 hours of leaf raking afterwards.

I rode a climb this morning, 1500' elevation climb. It's the first climb of that magnitude since I started riding. Funny, I probably did climbs like this when I was a kid and didn't thing twice about it, now it feels like a major accomplishment. Anyway, it was 1500' climb in 2 miles. My total ride length was 14 miles. The highest elevation at the summit is 4368'.

I just picked up a new (used bike) today. Frame is a 1973 Gran Prix Raleigh.
Updated Components, so it rides nice. It is definitely heavier than my other bike, but great for around
town. I rode about 10-15 miles. I would have done more but its in the high 30's and windy as hell, here in Memphis.

Pitifully slow 32 mile loop - go figure. 1550 feet of climbing. Did this last week in 1:57. Today was an awe inspiring 2:05 effort. I inexplicably had no gas.

High of 76 yesterday, high of 53 today. Only in Florida! Got out around noon with 15-20 mph winds and gusts of 35 mph. Between the cold air and the winds in my face, my sinuses were running like a faucet on full blast. It was all I could do to breathe through the 17.5 miles of today's ride. Tomorrow, the temps are suppose to go back into the 70's so it looks good for a 44 or 66 mile ride.

Here I am sitting in front of the TV with my laptop in my lap when I should be out riding my bike. I would but I'm waiting for it to warm up to something at least into the high thirties.

41 hot and humid miles. Temps back into the 70's after yesterday's high of 53*. Forecasted to rain tomorrow, so who knows what it's going to be like next week.

66 miles. Started out at 0800 with arm and leg warmers, long sleeve marathon tech shirt plus cycling jersey, full finger gloves and newspaper between jerseys. Dumped the paper after 29 miles.
