25 miles, mistimed things and got caught out in a thunderstorm this afternoon. I was in the middle of the roads through the farm fields and had no where to go but home, made it safely, or else I'm typing from the great beyond.......

Nice 35 mile ride today. Got up late, started the ride as the temps were going up and decided it was just too hot to really push it.

Wait a minute! You rode from the Valley to Long Beach and didn't get run over umpteen dozen times? Just the climb over the Santa Monica Mtns. (or the San Gabriels) would have been enough to make me cringe. (Yeah, I live in Nevada now but lived in L.A. for 30 yrs.) You're a better man than I, Gunga Din.

Just another commute day but a bit warmer in the afternoon. Waitaminute, I've seen that before. JanMM, are you pre-seeing what I write and writing it first?

Been commuting since Tuesday. Traffic has been abysmal.

SGV (West Covina) Not the SF valley if that's what you were thinking.

I do from my house to the upper loop of the SGRT first. Gets half of the elevation gain out of the way. Then down to LB, Back to SF Dam and then home. Only about 14-16 mi is on roads. The best part was jumping on the wheel of a 20 something TTer and staying there from SF dam to Baldwin Park.

Every time I'd make a shift or some other noise he's look back with this WTF What's this geezer with the fat tires doing? look. :-)

Starting from the SGV end has another advantage, almost guaranteed tailwind on the way home.

Nice 'n' easy 25 mile ride with two friends early this morning. Just out smellin' the roses, moving slow and comfortable.

Looking forward to the 3rd annual Le Tour de Bayou in two weeks.

45 very humid miles. Listening to the weathermen, they are saying the humidity should be dropping but I guess they don't get out of their air conditioned office very often.

20 miles. My six days off from riding during vacation has set me back a bit. Could also be the nasty humidity and heat.

54 miles on unpaved paths. Air was nice and cool, chilly in the shade towards the evening.

68 miles 7800 ft climbing. 6 hours - a long ride for me. Beautiful clear blue skies, 80F. Couldn't have asked for a better day.

I was completely exhausted after this ride, not withstanding the awesome burger and fries I had for lunch. I thought I'd earned it after the first 5,000 ft of climbing. Ran out of water as I reached the last of 9 mountains that I climbed. Thankfully it was only a 10 mile ride home from that point. Awesome day, but a ride I don't think I'll do again.

Hat's off to JimF and others who are riding these ridiculously long rides!

Today: 20 miles including a few hills. Warm but not hot.....

64.5 miles with 3500' of climbing at 10.3 mph. Very good ride for me. Was in groups 99% of the time. After the 100 milers this one felt very short. We did 21.3 mph the first 30 miles but had a 4 mile climb at that point that slowed things down a bit.

3 different riders rubbed wheels today and all stayed upright......either very lucky or some excellent bike handling skills.

I had a great 33km ride in Schaumurg Il today. I was several hours early for a delivery appointment, so I made good use of the time.
Barretscv sent me a route suggestion from where I was parked to the Busse Lake Park where he and I did a night ride a few years back. Unfortunately, it didn't suit him to hook up for a ride today, understandable since I gave such short notice.
When I was riding through the park, I stopped to chat with a group that had set up an information tent along the trail. They were a local cycling advocacy group from Elk Grove. We had lots to talk about.
Stopped on the return trip for a terrific Mexican Omelette to refuel.

Saturday was the Civil War Century in Thurmont MD. It was hot and very humid all day, and I was having cramping problems from about mile 50 on. Still it was a pretty good day for a ride. Met and chatted with Phil from the forum at the Fairfield rest stop. Nice guy!

They changed up the route a bit from previous years due to some road construction. Main loss was the ride no longer goes through Sharpsburg past the Antietam battlefield. The route was quite a bit hillier though, with some really short steep hills added. I ended up with 8500 feet of climbing over the 105 miles.

Sort of lucked out with the weather. There were huge lightning and thunderblasts all around for the last 15 miles. I got quite wet, but never got caught in an actual downpour.
