Bikes: Surly LHTD with a YAK trailer. I may have to ditch the trailer and go to panniers but I'll give it a try and see what happens.

I did my standard weekly 40 mile ride between Oakdale and Manteca and back. It ain't non-stop but that's not worrying me any.

35 miles, about 3000 feet of climbing. Of that, 2000 ft was on the very first climb, from the valley up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I rode down off of the parkway on a winding, steep gravel road for about 3 miles before I connected with another paved road, which took me back on down to the river level. That meant about a half hour of mainly descending. It wasn't quite as cold as yesterday, but I went from being comfortably warm on the climb to freezing cold on the descent, especially on my hands. My fingers felt frozen solid.

I know what you mean about the descents. I sweat on the climbs and really feel it on the descents, even with wind vests. Maybe I need to pack some newspaper as well. I don't know if it's all the extra clothes, getting older, weighing more or colder temps but I'm climbing slower than ever!!!!

I bet your views are spectacular and different with the leaves off the trees. I hope the white stuff stays away long enough for you to continue to get in these great rides.

25 miles, 12-15mph winds... A struggle into the wind but flying when it was behind me.

25.1 miles this afternoon, some scattered rain and a gusty southeast wind.

Outta the wheelchair and onto a cane. Slowly but surely getting closer to riding again. Man, I seriously miss it.
Here's one way to get some exercise...

I'll procrastinate tomorrow.

About 30 miles, S.S. last 30 min light rain. So light that my body heat evaporated the rain keeping it from coming through the windbreaker.

Got caught out in the rain, didn't expect more for a while so I took off. Made it to the 11 mile point and it came down, winds picked up as a bonus for my not paying attention. Made it a 22 mile afternoon. I didn't sweat it though, its our son, John's, 27th birthday. After what we went through when he was born 10 weeks premature, and spent 7 weeks in NICU, this didn't even register on the worry scale. Having him grown now, finished with his undergraduate studies, teaching at the local university, and active in his church, is more than we could have ever dreamed of, 27 years ago. I was sitting with my head in my hands outside a NICU waiting to be let in for the 1 hour we got at night to be with him. I am thankful beyond any words could ever express.

Stayed with the 5 guys for 32 miles yesterday until we came to a stop. I stopped, they rolled through and I just couldn't bridge the 100' gap that opened up. I don't have 30+mph sprinting legs. Had a 23.1mph average to that point. Slowed down and rode to county swimming pool where I popped off the shoes, socks, gloves, helmet and jersey then did some swimming. Rode back home for a 42 mile total.

Just delivered some food goods to a friend's house for his Christmas eve party. 10 miles north with a 20mph wind pushing then 10 miles south with a 20mph wind in the face on the way back. I liked the ride up better.

Turkey Day ride - 11 short miles at 34F. Nice to be back on the bike after a couple of weeks off. One of the nicest Christmas day's we've had in the last few years.

Temps around 50 so I finally took my son's MTB out for a ride in the mud. Only 15 miles but it was fun.

Forgot to post my ride for Tuesday - 35 miles. Today I rode with the newest member of our Italian riding club Ozzie. Got in a nice 44 mile ride in some very warm 70-80º temps with sunny to overcast skies. Not much wind today and made the ride even nicer. Did a lot of talking on the ride so it wasn't a very fast paced ride.
