December means that it's not stable winter here. Still above zero and too soft and wet in the forest so I tried the roadbike by the fjord today. A bit iffy as the temperatures were just above freezing but nice weather. Did a 60 mile loop a bit faster than I had planned.

Got up at 5 am this morning and decided to ride to the Post Office and mail a bill. 24 degrees and dark, man I need lights! It was hard riding in the dark and cold too. Did about 6 miles?
But you know what, it was sorta fun and rewarding in a weird kinda way. Going to check out lights today sometime.

Went back for another ride at 9:30 for a hour and a half. Much nicer!
Along with lights I think I may get a computer for the MTB too. I am guessing I went about 12-14 miles.

Sun gets up at ten past nine and down again at twelve past three today. OK if the weather is nice but too dark for me if it rains and stays cloudy.

Todays weather was great. The temps in the low to mid 70s and partly sunny that was a good thing, the bad thing was the 15 mph wind out of the ESE. My return trip was 12 miles into that wind. Ran into an old friend that I had not seen for about 3 months and rode with him for about 12 miles. He had been on a club ride earlier and was trying to get in some extra mile. It was good to see him.

Rain, rain, and more rain in southern California. Complaining? Yes, but we need it for our drought conditions. Got good rides in on Wednesday and Thursday but nothing since. Good weather forecast for next week!

Wow! Bike magazine had a feature about mountain biking in Norway. Sounded great.

I rode the trainer yesterday for the first time in ages. It sucked.

25 degrees but light wind here on the coast of Maine. Took the bike to the supermarket just to get out. Tomorrow looks to be a day I may actually be able to put in a few serious miles.
Will keep taking advantage of weather breaks as long as I can.

35F today.. sun shining.. very little wind. Got 11.5 mi done.. then my freewheel came off. New "break" for me....
the cog set just came off...

First time in exactly a week.. snowed and it took awhile for some rds to get really clean to ride on. Hauled the bike out 2 mi east and rode county highways.. little traffic. Was hoping to do 15 at least....

Wow! Fun reading posts from all over the world, including Down Under, where it's blessed summer! I'm in Arizona's White Mountains. I xc ski when it snows. I also ride indoors at the gym. Reading about all you guys riding in the cold makes me think I need a better pair of tights: windproof and warm. The ones I have are good down to about 38 degrees. It's inspiring to hear of cold weather riders! Last winter I stayed down in the Yuma, Arizona, low desert where you can ride comfortably in shorts all winter.

Tights? . I'd FREEZE. Two pairs of shorts.. knee warmers and then two pairs of sweat pants.. On top I over-cover with a quality rain jacket to keep the wind from going thru. Feet is my problem.... I need to get something that keeps them warmer.. their usually the limiting factor per ride time.

I'll ride single digits.. IF.. the wind is reasonable.

Yes and had to do something I have never done. Call for the SAG wagon(wife in Sabaru). 15 miles and 3 flats! Out of tubes and just too disgusted to start patching tubes. Looked good at the start with 40f and overcast.

Should have planned better as we had an ice storm yesterday. The roads had a lot of cinders spread for traction but those things just tore up my tires. So a perfectly good set of Vittoria EVO's are now trainer tires and it looks like winter is back with a force by tomorrow.

Had a Dr. appointment today so the ride was short. The weather was foggy and misty when I left this morning. The temps in the mid 70s and partly sunny when I got back.

34 degrees this morning but the wind was light. Did 18+ miles on my hybrid bike. Possibly the last ride of the season. Road damp from last nights rain; occasional patches of ice necessitated careful cycling.

Today Robert Foster and I, along with several folks from his local bike club, attacked a local challenge known as Lamb's Canyon. All together I did 42 miles with 2,400' of climbing...almost all of it in a 5.5 mile section. We were huffing and puffing at the top, but it is another notch in our riding belts as they say.

Thanks for the ride Bob.

Robert Foster, another BF 50+er, also lives in Hemet. We'll have to get together sometime.

First day in a LONG while due to the &*#$%@ weather, got about 14 miles in before it got too dark. Was almost 68 at noon today, but was dropping into the low 50's by the time I was able to ride.

Saw 2 hawks & about 6 deer, pretty neat.

...a little stiff in the legs tonight, wonder what caused that!
