17.5 today after work. Missed yesterday because of a long work day. The end of the month can be crazy as I'm in sales and have to get the numbers in. Truth be told I needed the day off from riding as my back can bother me if I go beyond seven or eight consecutive days of riding.

Took a 13 mile gravity ride (hills) with a friend in Spanish Springs. His calorie counter said 480. 69° at 9am today, nice 20.5 miles ride. I think summer is right around the corner (well, officially, Jun 21).

I re-routed the 12ft chain on the trike, what a beast of a job (idler installation & chain tubes). I rode it the first 800 miles with a totally wrong configuration. What a difference when it's routed properly under the idler sprocket (duh) and not riding against the bottom of the seat. Still a little idler/chain noise but a vast improvement and less drag. Live & learn.

51 miles total - 8 miles with the wife while waiting for my riding buddy to show up. Then it was 43 miles with him. Another day of perfect weather.

Low 70's, 15.5 miles on the Roubaix just before the wind picked up.
Another 10 miles late afternoon on the trike. Vast improvement in chain performance.

104 miles, 9.7K of climbing. Rode from outside Lexington up South Buffalo Road to RT 11, and then to Buchanan; up Rt 43 to the Blue Ridge Parkway; a long stretch past Peaks of Otter, Thunder Ridge, Otter Creek, and back down Rt 60 to Buena Vista and home. Nice and hot and humid, but I'm learning to keep on top of the hydration and fueling for this weather. Hit the electrolyte tabs pretty consistently, and only had minor leg cramps afterwards.

Today it's yard work. Ugh.

Today is my day off but yesterday I completed 582 miles in May. The pollen in the air here is still very bad and my EIB keeps me indoors. I found a technique to try and deal with it Friday evening involving a brief warmup ride on the trainer ending in a sprint or two followed by 15 minutes wait for a recovery period to start. I was able to put significantly more effort into it so I may be able to get outside soon. I envy you guys and gals who can pop out whenever the mood hits you. At least I'm able to ride and for that I'm thankful.

That's impressive Rich. I put 502 actual riding miles in for May culminating with a tiring 25.5 mile ride on the river bike path on the Roubaix. 811 of my 1902 miles since Jan have been on the trike (takes more leg) with a wrong chain routing configuration. Perseverance is the key. Kudos to you.

Sounds like the century and climbing was less work and a lot more fun than (shudder) yard work. I've never done a century so that's most impressive.

Today's 34.9 miles @ 17.2 mph gave me 816.65 miles for May. Solo ride except for two separate stretches where I hooked up with another rider that was just a notch above my abilities. It's good to turn yourself inside out every now and then.

Finished a three day tandem club weekend in Madison IN today. My stoker and I did 49 miles Fri., 41 Sat., and 42 today. There were hills. About 30 teams participated.

That looks like a fun trip! It's also nice to see pics in this thread instead of just a statement of distance.

Note how important punctuation can be:

"There were hills, about 30. Teams participated."

I usually don’t read this thread, but I noted this morning that my fellow MetroBostonian rider jimmuller was the most recent poster. I followed his comment to this post. Nice pictures, and looks like beautiful weather.

FYA, I had previously posted (in the dead of winter) to a BF subscriber who lives in Madison, IN:

The Madison Inn). Maybe it had a large sign overlooking the River. We arrived just before a thunderstorm and enjoyed watching it from the porch.

On the Indiana segment of the ride, I believe we entered from Mt Carmel, Ill, and I think we stayed over an extra rest day in Huntingburg because they had a motel with a pool (we camped and moteled). I recall on that Friday we stopped in a little town with "English" in the name to pick up some traveler's checks with money wired to us there.

On Sunday we left Madison, and on one of our longest days, we rode across Kentucky to Maysville, a picturesque town also on the Ohio River. My recollections about the Ohio River was the sense of early 19th century history, riverboats and such, and architecture so different than the West of the later 19th century that we had previously passed through.

...It is a nice place to live, though riding a bike from downtown to uptown is not so fun unless you really like going uphill.

I know a life-long Madisonian in his 60's who has ridden across the country himself, and had a daughter go to MIT. He often hosts cross-country cyclists in his home...but you said you stayed in a motel, and he would have only been around 30 in 1977.

Wow John. That's double what I did for May.

Nice 11 mile group ride on the upright (Sirrus) before the high winds set in. Some climbing but a great downhill run on a separated bike path. Wheeee!

Sounds like you stayed at what is now the Riverboat Inn, where our Tandem Weekend was centered. Great porch and view. Next door to the Inn is the home and practice of a dentist who is a long-time cyclist and who hosts cycle tourists through the Warm Showers program.

17.5 miles with my wife. I drove four hours plus today going to appointments and my body was dying to pedal. Cleared my mind and it needed clearing.

Thanks for your reply. BTW, FYA jimmuller is an avid tandem rider with his wife, and they post frequent pictures to our local Regional Discussion thread, "Metro Boston: good ride today?"

Took the Sirrus to the VA today the long way via the bike path 20.6 mile round trip. Even with old war wounds and ailments I'm in pretty good health. Hey, as long as I can ride I'm a happy camper.

Crazy 45 minute ride. So I checked the weather on my iPhone and it was supposed to be good till five pm. As I was riding I could see ugly clouds over the Bay. Instead of using good judgement I kept going. Finally I turned around in very strong winds but too late. The sky's opened and heavy rain fell. Along with heavy rain and wind the loud thunder started making me worry and sure enough lightening was happening in a violent manner. I pedaled as fast as possible and finally got to my car soaked but not fried from lightening. My wife was concerned enough to look for me in the car along the course. I'm going to use better judgement with these late afternoon storms. Maybe this will push me to pedal early.

22 miles today in my recurring role as a Bike Commuter. Thought I wouldn't need my cool-weather tights till Fall but got them out and wore them this morning as it was 50F.

Speedy 15.6 miles on the Allez (1:09:28). Yeah, I know, to a young guy that probably seems slow but for an old fat man like me it's good. Fun bike.

A nice hot and muggy 45 miles this morning. Started off with fairly cool temps but that didn't last for very long.
