A very good 36 mile group ride this morning with one of my cycling buddies and some other riders we met at the park. It feels good to do a group ride every now and then just to show the youngsters that us old farts aren't as slow as they think we are.

I just got back...

I took a quick ride out to Agee's Bicycles here in Richmond, Virginia out on Broad St. I rode the backroads through various neighborhoods with my old trusty Garmin eTrex GPS mounted on the handlebars. Total trip, 4.65 miles each way = 9.30 miles total in 41:05 (not including time spent in the store).

A funny story, while I was in Agee's nosing around looking at various high tech, carbon framed, something-something, road bikes - mostly Trek (Agee's is a primary Trek dealer), I couldn't believe the cost of some of them... I'm sorry, but I just stood there thinking to myself, "OMG, seriously?!?"

Anyway, the owner (a gray haired guy around my age) noticed my old Fuji outside and mentioned that I was wise to ride this morning and not later this afternoon when it's supposed to be a roasting 98°F outside! One thing led to another, and I went outside and wheeled my old Fuji into the store. The clerks and bike techs all looked over at it and gave approving comments like, "Oh wow man, classic!" and "Look at that... An 'old school' Fuji with downtube shifters!". When I told the owner (who was looking it over) that it was from 1985, he also said, "This is in excellent shape! We get these old steel framed bikes in here from time to time. They just keep on going and won't die. If there's anything you need, just drop it off with us, and we'll keep it going for another 30 years! (I guess he had to make a sales/service pitch for the repair shop).

That gray haired guy sold me my UO8 back in '72. It's good to hear he is still going!

It rained pretty heavily last night so thinking the bike path might be strewn with debris and puddles I took the Wasn't too bad but I also wore the bike jacket. 65° at 7:30am. I was glad to get it off when I got home, a little too warm. 19.4 miles at an average speed of 12.8mpg, just crusin'.

It occurred to me that maybe I bought my bike from that gray haired gentleman's father.

Ya, but wish I hadn't. Couldn't unclip fast enough and went over on the left side. Scraped up my leg, but worst of all scratched up my new B17

Got caught in a heavy wind and big rain drops for the last mile home yesterday on the trike.
Took the Allez out this morning with a long sleeved bike shirt. I should have worn the jacket and full fingered gloves. C'mon, this is the middle of July! 19.4 miles @15mph (hit some highs of 20mph). Supposed to rain again this afternoon and maybe over the next two days. Keeps it cool tho - high today 75°.

Nice 37 mile ride with a few 65+ riders. Turns out I wore the right jersey for the ride, my Old Fart Cycling Team jersey.

A good solo ride this morning. One of my buddies didn't show up for our planned 53 mile ride so I did 45 miles on my own. Very hot and humid with temps in the mid 90s.

Nice pics! I'm sure it's changed some but from the photos, it doesn't really look too much different than when I was there in the late 60's.

Went on the Portland Midnight Mystery Ride https://midnightmysteryride.wordpress.com/ Did 14 miles between 12:00 am and 2:00 am. I think I was the only Granddad on the ride but was accepted and had a great time. Age 62.

Did 65 with my club today which included a few short but steep climbs and I opted for the add-a-torture segment which taxed me really good. Sooooo tired. Soooooo happy.

We took the tandem out today for only 63.4 miles, a few mile shorter than the last few weekends. How'd that happen?

Rode a hilly 42mi route around Lake Charlevoix in less than 3 hours which included a water refill and snack as well as a traffic jam in town. Not bad at all.

Rode to and from the Indy Crit Kick-Off ride this morning. The medium route plus riding to and from the start and finish in downtown Indy totaled 48 miles.
Great fun taking a lap on the race course prior to the start of the ride.

Couple days late for posting, but, got my birthday ride in with help from friends. 65 plus 2 extra miles most of which following closely to the rear wheel of others. Felt good riding to the start point but soon the hurt and tiredness sets in that must be addressed. Solution? One pedal crank after another while the pain resonates throughout and the zero testosterone/muscle weakness adds to the frustration that saps the joy of riding. Couple days off for recouping and out Tuesday.
