:recum: 20 easy, laid-back miles on the River Bike Path. I did manage to top out at 21mph on a speed run.

Another awesome 45 minutes when noting hurts, me, my bike, and the road!

I just got back a while ago and took a shower. I did a nice straight forward 17 mile out 'n back ride (8.5 miles each way). Darn near flat as a dime, except for the small section of road that leaves the entrance to the boat ramp/canoe launch on the river.
Complimentary photos... http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psdyjlfrqy.jpg Route 522 south, after leaving the tiny side road for the boat ramp/canoe launch. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps3j7khkyj.jpg 8.5 miles later, I stopped at Routes 522 & 60 in Powhatan, VA at Chubby's gas station and drank my water bottle. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psjx8dwbm2.jpg On the return trip, I stopped (very carefully!) on the bridge on Route 522 and tried to take a photo, looking back down Route 522 and overlooking the James River. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...pswto4vbp4.jpg Sorry... No photos of my '85 Fuji Del Rey (you've seen it many times on this forum anyway)... I wanted to try stopping and getting a photo along Route 522, but it was too crazy and too tight of a road. You ride straddling the white line on the edge and if you're not careful, a heavy equipment truck could push you off the road! |
Did my 10 mile loop, got caught in a downpour! Everything got soaked.

A stop n' go 19.6 mile ride :recum: shopping day (I hate the local Walmart store). It's amazing how much junk you can stuff into a fanny pack. Even a big, fat mango.

Nice ride to and from work yesterday - 21 miles.
Today - drove home in the worst/wettest rain storm I can remember in a long time. Glad I wasn't on a bike. |
A quick 23 miles this morning, wanted to do more but had a lot of stuff to do today.

21 slowish miles this morning by myself. Haven't ridden in two weeks... ick. I could tell, even by my marginal standards. But it's supposed to reach 100F here today so I rode early ( started at 6:30 AM).

Perfect riding day. Highs in the low 80s, mid 60s at 8am. A bit more wind than predicted on the WU web site, but not bad. 17.9 miles on the Roubaix :ride: @15mph.

After two days of not riding, due to getting rained out, my buddy and I went out this morning for a rain or shine, 52 mile bike ride. Yes, it rained! And very heavy, I might add. Good thing was that it rained around us and ahead of us, never getting a drop of rain on us. Bad thing was that it was a very long ride with us trying to stay beside it and behind it. Had to do some very slow segments to keep from running into the rain. But we did it.

53.9 miles @ 17.2mph. Got a late start while I waited for the T Storms to roll through. Watched most of the TdF and went out when it stopped raining.
|
Did 51.5 miles on the tandem today. Humid but cool, cooler than predicted (I think).

25 miles with my wife today. 63.9 yesterday ending with a flat and an empty CO2 in my bag. Made the call of shame requesting a ride for the last 5 miles home.

Best cycling day I've had since last year. First section was 65 non stop miles at 17.5mph average of easy effort, low heart rate, relaxed riding most of it on the aerobars. Temperature at 0740 was 81F and climbed from there along with the humidity. Had a couple of Crank Sports e-gels along with their energy drink powder plus some dried apricots and Medjool dates I stuff with almond butter and a piece of 100% cacao chocolate. Got a double sting from a wasp that hitched a ride on my right knee at mile 12 and even though I rode by myself the pain kept me company all ride long and still does. At mile 65 I stopped at a Publix food store, locked the bike and got myself a choco-milk, a banana and 2 ice filled water bottles. Ate the snack then off for an even more relaxed 11 miles back home.
Funny thing is that I was disappointed that no one was around for the LBS ride, BUT, it wound up being a more enjoyable morning of exercise than I could have wished for. |
20 miles yesterday avg speed 13, 20 miles today avg speed 11. Both on Legacy Trail in Sarasota. I'm 5 weeks into this bike riding thing and today I fought dead legs the whole way. Just need more time and miles to build up my bike legs.

I did a nice easy 10.85 miles with my sister earlier today before it got really hot outside. My wife was busy with things and didn't want to go, and my brother-in-law wanted to go fishing, so we ended up with my sister & I going on the bike ride while my brother-in-law fished along the river.
My sister took this photo of me, standing with the James River in the background. Lots of people were kayaking and tubing down the river. Right at the "Z dam" section of the river, you can see the "chute" (by my left arm shirtsleeve), and someone's tube that floated away and got stuck in the undertow of the rapids! Anyway, behind me is my sister's Trek 7 speed comfort bike, or "Townie bike" as she calls it. And I'm standing with my C&V '85 Fuji Del Rey 12 speed. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q...psiinmgmpb.jpg |
A nice 17 mile group ride with Kiwanis Coffee Riders in South Reno on mostly flat Veteran's Parkway. We ended the ride just as it started getting hot. I'm still playing with that hard-to-set triple front derailleur on the Allez in the higher gears. The chain is like a friendly cat, loves to rub.

Wishing I was there biking or fishing.

LOL... I wasn't wearing bike/lycra shorts. I just had on a regular pair of black knee length shorts. My inseam is normally 33".

40.25 miles @ 17 mph 91 deg and humidity was up there. It was a hot wind today but I still love the summer.....as long as I can come home and turn on the AC;)

A gentle ten mile ride near home today. Yesterday, though, Indiana Department of Homeland Security issued a Heat Alert for Central Indiana and families were urged to stay indoors or in the shade. Really.
We took the Screamer to Columbus and rode 48 hot, humid miles in Bartholomew and Brown counties with a small group. 1250 feet of climbing and also some water left over from torrential rains on Friday. Most of the group went ahead through the flooded section but we took the opportunity to turn back and got to the lunch stop before the others - no wait for ordering! http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...M/IMG_4446.jpg It wasn't all hills and flooded roads: http://i189.photobucket.com/albums/z...M/IMG_4438.jpg |
JMM, very nice! Looks like fun.
I took the Masi out for only 35 miles today. Crossing the Concord River.: http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...dCrossing1.jpg |

Could never get used to the cables behind the bars. Felt claustrophobic. Enjoy that beauty. |

My old Fuji has a 25" frame. Yes, it's a BIG frame size. With a 33" inseam, honest, I'm okay with clearing the bar if I stand on my toes and not flatfoot. When I have stop, I always keep one foot in a pedal toeclip (at 11 o'clock), and the other foot on the ground standing on the ball of my foot. No problems with harming "Mr. Happy & the twins" :D
