Two days out from my focal cryo-ablation for prostate cancer, I bicycled the 5 miles to the LBS to say hi to everyone heading out for the morning ride. Slightly zig-zag back home for 6 more miles. Completed on wife's balloon tired 26" 7speed with seat reversed. Bicycling so slow I found 38 cents in the bike lane on the way back. Foley catheter really didn't hurt tooooo much. :D

Did about 45 minutes Saturday afternoon on nearby vacant fields working on stamina and balance. Good mix of soft bumpy prairie, hard pack with rough gravel, and patches of loose smooth beach stones. I'm not ready for any mountain biking but this should help with trail riding.

61 miles today. Started in a snowstorm but the day quickly turned quite nice so I just kept going.
|
17 miles on the MTB, in a Tee short and shorts on Long Island.

51.5 miles on the tandem today. From a snack stop in Concord:

66 miles, first 44 with group averaging about 19.5. Then rode solo into the wind bringing average below 18.
oh well, just crossed 6,200 miles for the year. Another few rides before heading West til next year. |
We rode with a small group, 6 of us, on a chilly and overcast NorCal day. Nobody hammered, nobody was dropped, and we had good conversations. I really enjoy these kinds of rides.

22°, overcast , 6 mph wind
Windy the past few days, cleared the paths, Road bike today :) Got in 20 miles. Worked on higher cadence on the hills, when I hit a hills pushed up to about 90 for 30 seconds Last 1/2 mile hill I almost fried the legs but made it. Felt good & the Legs were warm all day. I did have to use the 34-34 lo-lo gear at the top of a couple. Hoping 3 less layers & not wearing 4 pound felt pack boots, in So Cal will help. Fixed the glasses fogging up thing ,wore snow machine / skiing goggles. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=493079 |

Yikes.......... If cycling was handicapped like golf you'd probably earn credit for a 20 mile ride, at least. :thumb:

Another beautiful Florida day for a bike ride. Nice 32 mile ride with my buddy Lou this morning. Now, off to finish some last minute Christmas shopping.

Big Wind
Heavy winds and snow forecast for today so I went out a little early (8:30). Overcast so the temps were in the low 40s. 14.8 miles on the Allez 12-18mph. Big wind came up an blew the bike over at a rest stop in Rock Park. Heavy wind and rain drops on the way home but at least I got in a ride.
Neither rain nor sleet nor wind of day shall stay this brave cyclist from his appointed ride. 2015: 4732 Miles ♂ 2013-15: 9407 Miles Allez 1190.9/2391.1 · Roubaix 1306.0/2471.8 · Sirrus 664.4/1956.6 · Trike 1571.1 |
Rain today so I'm here but it's still in the 50's in December! 25 or so miles in the fog yesterday.

Weekend Update
Sat 12/12 - 52.25 miles with 1273 feet. Warm for Dec (57 deg) and overcast. 15.8 avg. Local 1/2 Marathon really messed with my usual route and really slowed me down. Being a former runner I get it but I wish they would learn to share the road. They show up once or twice a year and think they own the place. OK rants done:mad: Sun 12/13 - 41.2 miles with 955 feet. Another balmy Dec day (59 deg) 16.1 avg. |
26 miles on the Screamer today with my favorite stoker. Can't say enough good things about having a warm spring day for a bike ride in December.
|
Yes, riding with one's stoker is good. We did another 28 miles today, didn't have time to go out into the wild places.
http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...015/Sharon.jpg We also got to watch part of the muster of the Lexington Militia. http://world.std.com/~muller/pics/Ri...tonMilitia.jpg |
35 miles today on a stunning afternoon. Was pleased to find they had paved a road that adds even more variety to the local loops. It's about 2-1/2 miles long and always had a section of about 1/2 a mile in the center that was unpaved. I hadn't checked it in about 6 months. This is the third bit of area road they've paved in the last two years and all add very nicely to the already beautiful selection of country lanes I have the good fortune to be able to traverse. I lived here long before I started riding and am thankful every ride that I just happened to live in such a great spot for it.
|
The past three days it has been 70-74 degrees...incredible, even for N. GA. Rode the bike Friday, the motorcycle Saturday and bike with my wife today. Glorious days for sure.
|
Last week was great in East Tenn. Wed.Thurs.Fri we did rolling hills with road bikes, Sat.mtn bike or hybrid and did a trail ride into Cades CoveSmokey Mtns. Sun,greenway ride to downtown Knoxville, good week for an old man, 165 miles

Sunday afternoon, 16.9 miles in some harsh, SE winds. A cool front is making its way through the SE, and the winds have gotten really strong, today. Steady at 20mph, with gusts near 30 mph, I got blown across the roadway a few times, as I came into a clearing, or along the farm fields that are barren now that the crops are harvested. Decided to make it a set of intervals, so it was 1/2 mile sprints, all out, and a rest then another interval. Came home knackered, but glad to have ridden. My goal for the year, 7000 miles is very close, I ended up the week at 6850+ miles, I hope to cross the goal this week.

Brrrr - 26° this morning after about an inch of snow last night. Rode the Allez but cut the ride to 4.7 miles. Never had a problem with my knees ever, but this "old age" stuff is literally a pain. Right knee said, "You ain't goin' anywhere, Bicycle Boy"

Dude. It's pouring down rain, 58deg, blustery wind, wearing shorts. Why am I grinning?? Because it's Dec 14 and I rode a very quick 5mi around the southside of town on the little hotshot Trek 760.
Rule #9 is in FULL effect and drivers were staring at me. |
Forty six degrees, sunny, light breezes and a newly resurfaced asphalt road in central Kansas. A SMOOTH twenty mile ride on my old '87 Trek 400T Elance. Looks like the weather forecast will allow a couple more rides in the coming week. Yay!

Lowered the bar while raising my expectations Monday, during an 8-mile ride and errand run.
After a little more than three months riding a comfy/hybrid with the handlebar stem fully elevated to ease my return to riding, I lowered the stem a couple of inches today. It's still a couplafew inches above the saddle, but felt a bit better on uphills and into the wind. Had a few moments of neck and shoulder spasms at first but it cleared up quickly. If all goes well this week I may lower the stem a couple more inches, although I may need to pivot the handlebar forward a bit as well, and adjust the grips, twist shifters and brake levers. We'll see. Mostly I'm curious to see whether my back and neck can handle a flat bar. Maybe next spring I'll see if I can rent or borrow a standard road bike and see if I'll ever be able to manage drops again. |
