Rode to work and back today - about 20 miles. Third bike-to-work day this week after two months of driving. Winter is over! (Even if it's not.)

I waited until it rained Friday afternoon to ride so I could evaluate the Shimano Storm Jacket ... and it quit raining as soon as I started. But I piddled around until it began raining again and the jacket worked fine on the trip home.

Rode my usual 12 mile round trip, plus a little extra just to waste some time while waiting for the rain to begin again. First ride in six months without any asthma attack. I'd heard that dry air, especially cold or hot, aggravated exertion induced asthma. But Friday was just cool and very humid, and it's the first time I wasn't gasping for breath during the first 15 minutes or so. Legs felt great too. Felt like I could have ridden 30-40 miles easily, if I'd gotten started sooner. Maybe this weekend, rain or shine.

I rode 20 today, for the first time this season. Admittedly, to deliver a spindle to my bike tech. 44 degrees, very good. Have to re-learn my Speedplay clips every spring, though, so I took it slow.

Rode the Cannondale. I couldve done the full 30 but opted to save some for the final 3mi kick. Still early.

Rode 31 miles along the Pinellas Beaches in the Ride 4 the Animals Charity Ride this morning. With the excellent weather and the excellent bikini clad scenery, there was no hurry in getting this ride done.

Had I gone out at 9AM as planned (yeah, right) the winds would have been low. But Ma Nature is a _____, she had her Wind Minions waiting for me at the bike path at 10:30. Really, when I got there and took the bike out of the SUV, low wind. When I got on the bike path three minutes later, big wind. Enough to blow me off the bike path twice (I'm 220lbs, bike is 19lbs - big gusts). Roubaix - cut the ride short to 7.9 0:36 - wind 18-50mph.

In Memphis it is technically illegal for a woman to drive a car unless there is a man either running or walking in front of it waving a red flag to warn approaching motorists and pedestrians. (True fact)

Sunrise From The Saddle

Rode my recently finished "Gypsy Bleu" around the neighborhood this morning, and watched the sunrise from the saddle whilst pedaling around Thompson Lake. This was a wandering sort of ramble, past the old elementary school, and down to the cafe for a nice breakfast. I do believe we can safely call it Spring, here in Minnesota now. (Hope I didn't just jinx it...)

O Solo Mio (solo Metric) 62.2 miles with 2162 ft. @ 16.1 mph. 53 degrees with light wind almost a perfect day for riding. That's why I stretched my planed 50 miler into a Metric.

21 mile suburban/rural/suburban ride this morning. Dry and warmish. Very nice except one encounter with annoying dogs - left my Halt! at home but that won't happen again.

Did a good 38 mile solo ride with some fairly strong wind this morning. Forgot about the DST time change and got out to late to do more mileage before the rains came.

By the Numbers...

Yep, I went riding again today. This time it was down along the Mississippi River across from downtown Saint Paul.

Since you all seem to like spouting numbers so much, here are mine:

ISO 200 through f/11 at 1/160 second. - I was just loafin' there.

Here, I was really flyin' - ISO 200 through f/2.2 at a blistering 1/4000 second. Now that's =fast!

About 14 miles on a lovely afternoon but holy moly, dat wind! Weather app said only 16 mph, but I don't believe it. Felt more like 20-25 mph. I was granny-gearing up every slight hill, and only in 3rd on the flats. And on the return trip I was in top gear even going uphill. Felt great, but that tail wind had to be stronger than 15 mph.

And it blew over a barricade that had separated me from an in-progress housing development I'd been wanting to explore. Sooo... I did. It's gonna be very nice, and way beyond my budget.

And I got muddy. Not deliberately, I just forgot about the recent rains and hit some Texas black gumbo that reminded me there are limits to my tires. Fun until I had to clean up this evening.

A bad week here, 114 miles was all I could muster with the winds and rain. Saturday was a wet and windy ride, but I badly needed to get out, Sunday saw our first really nice day this month. Sunny, warm/mild, low humidity and a light SW breeze made for a great day.

Wrapped up the week (my cycling week starts on Monday) with 35 miles with about 1200 feet. Gave me my first 200 mile week of the year.

Late Sunday afternoon - 10 local easy miles. Needed that to balance the previous several hours that I had spent replacing a garage door opener.

First ride of the season on Monday. Fourteen miles on the St. Tammany Trace out of Abita Springs, LA. with a lifelong friend and training buddy. It was difficult winter with a left hand trigger finger release surgery and an acute right hip bursitis now both fully resolved. Took it very easy, best ride of my life, back on the bike when I wasn't sure that might happen for a while... Grateful.

Another 46 mile ride with the guys this morning. We're having awesome weather here that feels like summer, except without the high humidity.

Nice temps (60s) but nasty weather again all through the weekend and Monday. No wind today but 35°. I'll take it. 17.4 miles in 1:31 on the Roubaix. I'll be glad when this month is over.
Got home from VA appt. and it was just too nice out to pass up. Got dressed (again) and went out for an additional 6 miles—23.3 overall.

et tu brute.....beware the ides of March, sorry about that Julius

Fog was in town this morning so I had the lights flashing on the bike and helmet for almost the entire 72 miles of riding. Hopefully Thursday will be a little clearer in the early AM.

Hills and hills. If I found flats, it was 21mph minimum. Just a short 12mi is all I had time for today.

For an evening ride (and it was a gorgeous 55f) I brought out the Colnago for a brisk ride around town. I say "brisk" because that is how you climb these townie hills with a 42/21 low. There is nothing like a first spring ride on sewups (125psi).
