27 miles Monday afternoon/evening. Legs felt dead but my speed was only slightly slower. Helps to set a goal: The only store that carries my favorite beer is at the turnaround point halfway. Priorities.

I need to ride today. I didn't ride yesterday. Instead, I walked all over Chicago.
It was so hot, too. When I finally landed my ass back into a seat on the train home, I realized even if I had daylight there was no way I was going to ride.
But, today! HELL YES! Must.Ride.

Yesterday. A 34 mile ride on the C&O canal path with my vintage ('96) Giant lady's crosstrail. She's 20 years old this year, which makes our combined age 83!!!

And we had a blast, crossing the Potomac at White's Ferry just outside of Leesburg, VA, into Maryland and then north on the path into Point of Rocks for lunch at the 17 mile mark, and then a return trip back to the ferry, cross back into Viriginia, and then the remaining 4 miles back to my car parked at the Leesburg library. A super fun, super enjoyable day...and we got back just as the heat started to rise into the high 80's (F) and the humidity became unsufferable. I had my electrolytes with me, and plenty of fluids and homemade cookies for the carbs.

Next week we have planned another C&O canal ride, this time into Harper's Ferry. Gotta love this great towpaths for biking! Perfect for getting me in shape for doing the Allegheny Gap Trail this fall, with hubby as my SAG.

Photo taken on the Monocacy Aqueduct (finished in 1833) on the C&O Canal just south of Point of Rocks, MD.

1st ride to day on new (used) toy. Found an S-Works Tarmac on ebay for about $6,000 less than the original cost. Won the bid, assembled (it came to me disassembled) at Sierra Cyclesmith (LBS), I'm a happy camper What a sweet ride.

Around 100F here today with high humidity and a heat warning. Road 30 kilometers and then some cross-country on the way back to avoid roundabout construction. I did that because I was towing a vintage Deore equipped MTB I bought for $15.00 Canadian.
Bike front fork was passed through the rails of my rear rack and the bike strapped down securely with the front wheel strapped the the frame of the bike. I hardly notice a bike is there when I'm riding.

Cheers

Since we got back from our travels last week I have managed 25+ miles a day, even in this heat wave and ridiculous humidity. Love living in Florida in the winter but this summer heat can be brutal!

Today I was about three miles from home in generally clear skies when I heard lightning and very close. Heavy rain started so I sprinted home for my safe dry garage. Pretty sure I set a personal record for that three-mile bike sprint!

30 miles this morning. First half was great -- coolish, bit of a tailwind. Trip back was almost like work. Except for the being at work part.

Got to see several big kids reliving their childhoods playing Pokemon Go along the MUP. Gotta admit, I'm okay with this. They probably need a little harmless escapism after so many disturbing events this year. I even chattered with one Pokemon hunter. Good kid.

Nice and hot 52 mile ride this morning. Except for the two times I tagged onto Amanda Coker's group, for about 8 miles total, the rest was solo.

Spent too much time jaw-jacking with a cyclist friend in Rock Park (which I thoroughly enjoy) so the ride was cut down to 18.1 on the new toy (Tarmac SL). Enjoying the cycling life.

A nice cool start quickly turned into a very hot ride, once again. Got in 50 miles with the gang this morning. The park rangers said the repaving of the south loop will be finished this afternoon and they will open the entire loop tomorrow. That remains to be seen.

Yesterday I rode to the flying field (9 a.m., no wind and no one there, what's up with that?), lapped the park, then unusually, returned the way I came.

Today, rode to where I work and back. . . .

It's warm but comfortable at 9AM. Near the start of the ride I have to stop (always) to cross one of the busiest streets in Sparks - McCarran Blvd., a very long traffic light. (The only route with more traffic is the I-80 freeway.) Standing there in the sun got hot. 98° predicted for today. But the humidity is only 9%. 21.4 fun & fast miles on the Tarmac.

What he said.

Cool at 7:15AM and that's when I began. Turned hot and humid when the sun came up. Rode with a group but there was so much up and down I'll do my own thing next time. Finished with 66 miles on the 1983 Paramount.

I rode early (12.6 miles)... before it got too hot... before it rained. Rode through a park at one point. LOTS of Pokémon people crowding the paths. Glad to see people outside getting sun and exercise. I must remember to install bells on my bikes.

Forgot to check in yesterday. Short ride, 7.2 miles.

Today, went on a tour of sorts. Out to St. Charles, down to Geneva, back to HP. 24.9 miles. First five were hard.

Seriously thinking about doing a metric century soon.

Ain't that the truth.

Came across a child yesterday, when I called out, "I'd like to pass on the left!", she turned her bike and blocked the entire path! (facepalm) She was certainly old enough to know better.

17.1 @12.7 mph this morning. Went across to Irondequoit Bay and back. Passed by an even older guy going up a good hill during the last two miles. It's all good.

Have a great weekend!

It started off a good ride in some fairly cool weather and ended up a very hot, 53 mile ride that has me worn out. Rode with my buddy Steve, doing a nicely paced 18-19 mph ride for the first 17 miles. Then I hear this yell behind me and I immediately think that Steve crashed. Turned to look and he's still on his bike but has no right pedal. His Speedplay pedal had broken off of the spindle and was on the bottom of his shoe. Had to limp it back to the parking lot, about 9 miles, at about 10-12 mph so the pedal would stay on the spindle. It's now getting hotter and the hot wind is picking up. Start off for lap 2 at a nice reasonable pace and when I get to the west parking lot, I run into my buddy Frankie, and finish my lap with him. Frankie is a 14-16 mph rider so we weren't going fast enough where I could cool down. So between the heat, the slow riding for too long a period and the black jersey that dummy decided to wear today, I'm toast. Hope tomorrow's ride works out a lot better.
