A nice "recovery ride" for Sambo and me today.
I had not ridden 2 days in a row since mid November, so today's 30 on the heels
of yesterday's 25 is significant.
We started off easy, but of course, it didn't last.........

Rained out all day yesterday and it looked as if I was going to be rained out again today. Luckily, the rain stopped mid-morning and I was able to get in a very windy, 58 mile ride today.

Still windy but it was tolerable. The gang was feeling frisky this morning because we had some really good ride times on the loop and even in certain areas of the subdivision section of our route. Another 40 mile ride.

22.2 miles (35.8k) on a cold (22) morning. 4 days without riding before this (well, not counting yesterday's .9 sprint in a mini-blizzard).

Started late this afternoon after work to do 43 miles to Bronson and back with no wind and gorgeous weather that I hoped would never end. Started out slow, picked it up on the Domane and hit stride on the Trek back home. Ran a little short of fluids on the way back; I need to hydrate more.....

45 miles Friday evening, between back to back group rides and the trip there and back home. Reconnected with some folks I hadn't seen for awhile and met some new friends.

Out the door on my upright '82 touring Paramount at 2:31AM for a refreshing, a bit on the cool side, 53 miles then a bike and kit change and back out for another 61 miles. Beautiful SW FL weather.

I finally met up with 2 guys who work at a local bank for a ride this morning.
The 4 of us (including Sambo) drove up to Hattiesburg to pedal a bit on the
Longleaf Trace. A nice fairly flat Rails-to-Trails conversion.
We had breezy conditions, but rode a nice recovery pace.
A very pleasant 30 miles w/new and old friends.

I had my heart set on a nice long Saturday ride, but it was quite blustery, and one of the roads I planned on a new route had no bike lane. I got in 42 miles, but not before flatting out and discovering my new CO2 cartridge was empty.

I was about 5 miles from home, lucky for me a gentleman peddling by with a working canister stopped. Coincidentally, he had almost the exact same bike (Domane with Di2). We chatted for a bit, but the road is busy without a lot of shoulder. He cycles a lot so hopefully I'll see him for some local riding. Hey, thanks Dave!

A few bad days of rainy weather and a short month dictated a 60 mile ride today if I wanted to have a 1K mile month. Between some posterior knee pain, from an over stretched tendon, and the heavy winds, today's 60 mile ride was one of the slowest I've done in a long time. Just didn't want to battle the wind today.

Got my bike last Saturday, still trying to figure out what I can do with out overdoing it. So far short daily rides of around 6 miles each.
Today I rode 15 miles, plan on a night ride as well around 5 or 6 miles.

Here too! It started out just a bit breezy, but got progressively worse as the ride went on. Although predominantly from the west, of course it changed direction on my NE slog back. I bought a heart monitor for kicks - amazing what a strong breeze does to your speed trying to maintain 132 bpm. This is my fourth winter in FL and I never remember it this consistently windy.

Supposed to go to a star party tonight, and the seeing (turbulence) is going to be lousy. Oh well....... Ok, I'm done crying now.

Spring winds are what I used to call"Florida Hills."
Now that I live in South Mississippi, we have hills year 'round, and the same stiff spring breezes...if not worse than Fla!

Enjoy!

A nice relaxing 10 miles with friends. Turned around at the halfway point while the rest continued onward to make their ride a 20 miler. I was on the road bike and had to keep a watch on my knee for any signs of stress. Thus, the shorter distance. Going out into a strong wind set our speed at 9-10 mph, coming back I cruised along at 17mph. Same physical effort both ways. Gorgeous warm day with thunderstorms looming on the horizon.

I was looking forward to a Saturday ride and woke up to snow on the ground. Stayed blustery all day, no ride.
25.8 miles (41.5k) today. Doubled up on a 2 mile (4 round trip) section. Parts of the regular bike path are still covered in sand and mud and the tree cutters haven't finished yet so it's closed, have to take to the streets (with auto traffic) around it. Cold but a nice ride.

I took it real easy today. The wife had a ride on the Van Fleet Trail in Polk City, FL, with her trike club, The Recumbent Rangers. About 8 showed up. It was a really slow, 25 mile ride with an average speed of 8.32 mph. There were a few times I had a hard time keeping the bike upright when they went slower. Two pluses - hardly any wind and it was a good ride for my left knee that's been bothering me for the past few days. Tomorrow, it's back to normal.

Thought about it. Rain in socal again. Wet roads don't bother me, but raining eh nah, sore quads anyhows trying new seat position. Coffee with the significant other sitting on the couch looking out the window earned some brownie points....

Stayed out too late last night at the astro party as the sky conditions were far better than predicted. We viewed from Rosemary Hill Observatory courtesy of U of F School of Astronomy. So I felt more than a little tired this AM.

Besides, it turned cold and windy, so I spent an hour on the elliptical instead, a pretty good workout. But eventually I got cabin fever and managed to get in an excellent 20 miles just before dinner. Warmed up into the low 70's, winds subsided quite a bit.

Did you ride today

Today is day 8 with my new bike, found the Baton Rouge Bike Club and rode with them for about 16 miles. ( I swear it was more but that is what the leader said )

This was really what I needed, so far I have ridden by myself and consistently average 9 mph.
The ride was described as a class C meaning 10 to 14 mph but no faster than the slowest rider. Being mardi gras there were only three riders besides myself but they were patient and very friendly, offered lots of good advice. I hung in there pretty well for the first half of the ride but on the way back started lagging behind, they pulled over several time and let me catch up.
But I made it, average speed was 12 mph and max speed was 33 mph. I'm happy with that for now.

That was just what I needed, a friendly push, if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger right?

Speaking of a friendly push as we were going through the LSU campus there was an unmanned guard shake in the middle of the road with bollards to tighten up the lane so only one car can pass through at a time and as I approached I thought I was taking the lane obviously I was mistaken cause a big SUV eased up next to me as we approached the check point and literally forced me to go around the bollard on the wrong side. The lady looked at me, gave me a big hearty smile and waved as I dodged the bollard. I just had to smile back as I think she was clueless as to what just happened. Nex time I will be smack in the middle of the lane, lesson learned.

Well here in Southern Quebec the temperature hit a balmy +18C yesterday, under partly cloudy skies but very windy. On the 25th of February! So even though I was fighting a man-cold, my wife and I took out our crappy cross bikes for a 40.8 km ride twice around our usual training circuit (700 m vertical). Then in the evening we had thunderstorms (on the 25th of February), and then it snowed overnight and we woke up to a fresh coat of snow, -5C temperatures, and high winds. It was too good to last. I do think it was a record early start to the season for me.

Some really welcome sunshine but the wind was too brutal for me. Cut the ride short to 10.1 miles (16.3k). Wind Wimp.

Strong winds from the south meant a day of mostly side and crosswinds during the 40 mile ride. Good news this morning was that the knee problem I've been having since Saturday was gone this morning. Managed to get a few good 19-20+ sprints in between gusts.
