Home from work with sun to spare, I set out for a 30 mile run, only to flat out again after 20. This is four flats in two weeks, and the reason is rear tire wear (see thread I started on tires). Aside from that, a warm, slightly breezy but not too windy afternoon/evening. And a gorgeous sunset to boot!

44 miles for the last ride of the month. Ended up with 1,012 miles for February. Still had some pretty rough winds on today's ride but it wasn't as bad as it has been. Rode 15 miles solo and the rest with my buddy Steve.

Wow! Congrats! :thumb: An incredible amount of riding in windy conditions I'm sure (or, "Florida Hills" as another poster here put it). All told, I'd rather have incessant hills than winds......

Calm winds and cool temperature at 2:15AM so got out for 65 miles. Back home for a wheel swap to aero rims and back out at 7:48AM for a now windy and warmer 55 miles.

And please, keep reports like this on the QT - we don't want all those snowbirds reading these reports and clogging our trails with their winter bikes:D |

It seems wind is inevitable For Feb/Mar. 19.3 cold but sunny miles (31.7k), wind less than yesterday. Then off to the VA for a cystoscopy (oh, what fun). All is well. 2017: 466m (750k)♂Total: 15,454m (24,871k) |
32 miles in nice very late afternoon weather, a little breezy at first, but calm by ride's end at 6:20 just as the sun was setting.
Very good month for me as I topped 600 miles after having started riding 02-Feb after 10+ weeks off the bike due to my pelvic break in November, and having to work full time. |
Kind of a gnarly looking, breezy day today.
I went out and did a bit over 23 miles in those conditions, worked up a sweat even thought my intention was to take things "easy." We all know how that never seems to work out..... |
Finally caught a break in the weather. Cold (30°) but sunny and a lite (2mph) breeze for 21.4 miles (34.4k). The next 3 days should be rideable, but snow on Sunday.
Decided to go out in the afternoon for another 9.6 miles (15.4k), total of 31 miles (49.9k). What I didn't anticipate was the extra heavy auto traffic and the inevitable afternoon wind. Got a good workout. 2017: 497m (800k)♂Total: 15,485m (24,921k) |
Moderate to gusty winds from the SW impeded my progress today. I pedaled an hour directly into the teeth of it, and didn't even make 16 miles. There are lots of open plains west of here, and nothing to stop the enemy. The ride back was easier, but the winds always seem to subside as the sun sets. Total trip was just under 30 miles....

Wednesday was my first ride since a 45 miler Friday. Still felt achy and exhausted but had to get out there for a little while. A sluggish 13 miles, half of it into 20 mph head wind and moderate hills. Still good to get out for a ride.

Quiet roads and calm winds greeted me at 1:38AM as I began another early morning ride. First leg totaled 68 miles then second leg with winds picking up I added another 57 miles. Enjoyable 125 mile total today.

Nice winter's day for a 20.8 miles (33.5k) ride. Cold but sunshine and no wind.
I have to decide whether to be cold for the first half of the ride (30° to start) or a little too warm for the last half. I don't like cold so I wear the extra lined jersey as a second layer and leave it unzipped underneath the jackets for the latter part. Compromise R Us. 2017: 518m (833k)♂Total: 15,506m (24,954k) |
After returning yesterday from 10 bicycle-less days in Costa Rica, got out today for 10 miles in 40-ish, breezy conditions. Felt good to ride again.
Cycling would be a challenge in the areas where we were in CR. Impressed to see some folks out on bikes. |
24 mi. along Lake Okeechobee. Plumb beautiful day.

night time commute home and i thought this looked pretty cool...

The wife didn't ride today, nor did any of my riding buddies, so I took her recumbent trike and rode with her riding partner for a really enjoyable ride. I think today's 38 mile ride is the farthest I have ridden her trike since she's had it. Winds were better than they have been over the past week. I did find that I like riding the trike in side and crosswinds more than I do on the road bike. I don't get blown from one side of the road to the other on the trike. Headwinds, not so much.

night time commute home and i thought this looked pretty cool... Grey, overcast day, not the most pleasant riding conditions. 15.5 miles (24.9k). However, the city finally got a bobcat and cleared most of the mud and sand off the bike path (only been 3 weeks). Still a lot of debris from the tree cutters. Looks like bad weather for the next 2-3 days tho. 2017: 533m (858k)♂Total: 15,522m (24,979k) |
Cold and quite windy today, winter has finally hit north central FL. Decided to ride to work and back, about 30 miles total. A bit too much traffic for my liking, which is too bad because it's otherwise a pleasant ride in rolling hills and open plains.
Supposed to ride tomorrow with Gainesville Cycling Club on a 40 mile loop. Since I ride almost exclusively solo, it'd be a great opportunity to practice riding in a pace line, but if it's as cold and windy as predicted, not sure..... |
30 miles Friday, pleasantly cool and mostly sunny. Feels like I'm finally recovering from the bruised ribs (fell about a month ago), could breathe and expand my chest fully without pain. One of my faster rides, although at 14 mph overall I'm still no speed racer.

Windy and cold weather in addition to Scotty greeted me as I made my 12:08AM departure for segment one of today's dual ride. Kept the aero wheel off the front since 25mph gusts have a habit of shoving me around and glad I did since even Scotty was thrown around on his bent. 81 miles done and now out for some more with winds picking up and the temps dipping a tad.

Awoke to very cold (for us), windy conditions, but fortunately the club ride was pushed back to 9:30 AM start, and by then it warmed up to the low 50's. There were only five of us on the 41 mile ride through western Alachua County into Gilcrest Co. where the roads are in considerably better shape. Nice cow country!
Crosswinds and headwinds on the return, but not nearly what I experienced earlier in the week. Made some new friends and had a blast on the Domane! |
7:38AM departure time for round 2 of today's riding. Temperature up and so too the winds. 20/30mph and higher gusts. Add the 59 miles finished in round 2 and round 1's 81 miles makes for a nice 140 miles total for the day. No more riding until after prostate cancer blood work next Friday. The rest period will feel good.
