The wind wasn't too bad this morning but the ride wasn't one of the best. A lady pulled out of an apparent complex in front of us and as I swing out to avoid getting hit, I feel my buddy Steve's bike hit my bike and down he goes. Very Hard! The lady continued on her way and never bothered to see how he was. He refused EMS so a guy that saw the whole thing tho ok him and his bike back to his car. He was still there when I returned and couldn't remember what happened or how he got there. My wife pulled into the parking right after I did so we drove him home. His wife took him to the ER and, luckily, everything is OK. Got in 25 miles.

Sunny spring day in Central Indiana - 24 mile ride over to Mann Road and down to Fox Hill, which I climbed. Always a challenging little hill for me. And then home again on mostly flat roads but with some rollers mixed in.

Did an uphill 8km this morning, feeling a bit guilty that I didn't do the full 14km up, but left it late to start and had to be somewhere. but still a sweaty good climb, and very much enjoying the new compact 50/34 crank I fitted yesterday making hills that much easier, even in the 34 degrees C of the tropical morning sunshine.

I took my 2015 Salsa Fargo out for the 3rd race in the Rage Against the Chain Ring series yesterday. 52 miles of gravelly fun! I finished 3rd from last in C-class. But, I'm proud to have made it the distance under what I thought were tough conditions: Strong south wind; deep loose gravel. I hope to get faster with experience. I plan to go out today with my road bike under the similar conditions see if I'm any quicker.

Three days of bad weather. Got in 16.8 tired miles (27.0k) with a new bottom bracket in the Tarmac SL3.
The bike path is flooded—again—at its lowest point.

Since I put on brand new Kenda K36 (27" x 1 1/8) tires that I picked up on sale off Amazon, I can't believe how well they made my C&V '85 Fuji literally FLY down the road! Wow...

17.5 miles in 1 hr 4 min for an avg speed of 16.3 mph. And seriously... I wasn't really pushing it or cranking hard. 16.3 mph felt like I was just enjoying a normal regular everyday ride. High pressure skinnier tires definitely means less rolling resistance! Wow...

Here's a quick shot I took along River Rd by Benedictine Prep School in the far western part of Henrico County, here in Virginia.

24 tandem miles on our Screamer with my favorite stoker. Beautiful but breezy day. First half of the ride too much headwind and gusts but the last half coming home was tailwind-assisted. Which was very nice, especially on one section with several miles of rollers.

18 miles on a blustery late afternoon with 20 mph winds. Which was fun on a downhill slope, the only time the wind was at my back. Hit 37 mph there without even trying, and that's still not a record for that segment. Average was only 13 mph. I loaded up my serious camera gear in the handlebar bag but got started too late for the slanting sunbeams I wanted to catch on an abandoned ranch. Oh, well, good excuse to do that ride again.

Great 27 mile ride with the wife along the Legacy Trail in Sarasota, FL after the wife and I finished our volunteer work at the Tour de Cure in Lakewood Ranch, FL. Added a few more miles to the ride by riding about three mile on the Venice Canal Trail, which starts directly across the road from where the Legacy Trail ends. I had a few good sprints from catching up to my wife after I stopped to get some photo shots.

It was a much needed confidence booster Sunday, 35 miles but over hills with speeds that I hadn't seen before, at least not recently. It helped to air up my tires, which I'd neglected down to about 40 psi. Beautiful day, it truly felt good.

Saturday, 4/8: 16.1 miles, ave. 13.8 mph. No land speed records broken, but OK for a windy day and my first ride of the spring.

This morning: Weight training, then 21 min./7 miles on the stationary.

After work ride. 39 kms. Tougher than I was expecting due to windy conditions and the fact that I was up at 4:15 am to go to work.

12.43 miles in the afternoon under a hot sun. Just took it relaxed and easy. Me and the bike and the rural springtime countryside on roads so quiet and peaceful that all the creature sounds are magnified because there are virtually no cars to be seen/heard. At one point I spooked a beautiful red fox casually trotting along the shoulder of the road - it hadn't heard me coming along until the last minute when it turned, its eyes going wide as it caught sight of me coming forward, and took off like a bullet for about 40' into the woods alongside the road. Then it stopped, and turned to watch me cruise by. I grinned. It was a young fox with a lovely coat, probably only a year old.
Then I went home, got my tablet, and while in the process of grabbing my purse in order to drive my car to a neighbor 1/2 mile distant - I needed to meet with her to get some info for an article I'm writing - I decided at the last moment I'd rather ride the bike up the road instead. So put the helmet back on, tucked the tablet into the panniers, and pointed the bike up the road. It was all uphill going to her farm, but delightfully downhill coming back home with all the info I needed.
Total distance: 13.43 miles

Since I'm off my school bus (spring break... Yay! ), I just got back from a very harrowing bicycle ride down to the James River and back, here in Richmond, VA.

13.65 mi in 52:00 minutes for an avg 15.8 mph speed. Pretty much all downhill to the river and uphill on the way back. Speaking of the way back, I encountered some idiotic "good ol boys" in a white landscaping pickup truck. All I remember hearing is "Get out of the road!!! ...A--hole!!!" and they drove by me so close, I swear they could have clipped my left elbow with the passengers side mirror!!! Don't those fools know that there are bicycle laws on the books where vehicles are REQUIRED to give bicyclists 3 FEET of clearance space on the road?!?

Anyway, as seen below are the appropriate photos of my scenic ride down to the river...

My old C&V '85 Fuji road bike at the end of Riverside Drive by Richmond's "Pony Pasture Park"

A view looking upstream of the James River near the big parking lot and pullover area along the river.

Winds are still ripping making for a good workout even without hills. Used my invisible bungee cord to hook onto the frames of the riders in front of me numerous times on the ride today. 60 miles done but felt more like 80.

50 miles this morning with my friends Frank C and Travis. Not very windy on the first 25 miles but the last half of the ride had some killer gusts, especially on the last 10 miles. Give me some hills were I can at least take a little break on the downhill.

Ya, windy here too, especially on the return. I 'breezed' into Bronson, but knew I would pay the price on the way back. And boy, did I ever. Pedaling into the wind, I could see the shadow of a bike approaching from my rear, so I put the gas on. Held him off for a few miles, but eventually he caught me and gave me a smile, stating " damn, I couldn't pass you". He eventually dropped me on his very fancy looking tribike. 40 miles today, and about 85 combined on Sat and Sun ( forgot to post ).

Ron H. Next time, go to the bike shop in Blairsville. It's a couple hundred feet before the old courthouse square as you come from Blue Ridge. Road bike friendly.
