POURED down rain last night and this morning - flash flood watches tonite - club rides cancelled and even the Komen Run for the Cure event in downtown Indy was cancelled.
But, this afternoon was mostly dry. Worked in yard, then out for a ten mile ride. Raining again now.

My ride today didn't turn out exactly like I expected. Was thinking of doing 50 miles for the last day of the month ride, but the park was extremely crowded from as early as 7;30 when I got there. That mixed with too many kids and strong winds tossing everyone around made for some unsafe conditions. I rode 25, solo miles (1 lap around the loop and 1 lap through the subdivision) and decided to call it quits since I was already over my 1,000 miles for the month.

45 miles, hot (mid 90's) but little wind. A bit of a recovery ride, and I hadn't even planned on riding at all. This is becoming slightly addicting....

Feeling a little low on energy but did quite a bit of 18mph anyway (love this restored '06 Tarmac). First ride I've started this year at 50°. 25.0 miles (40.2k), a little overdressed (and sweaty) by the end of the ride.

Visiting in Portland area (SW), and I don't know the routes too well. Cut my ride short to about 15mi because I couldn't find a quiet road. OK, I should have started the Sunday ride earlier than 11AM. Everyone's out in their cars on a dry weekend day as Spring matures!!!

Fun 56 miles, just a random pick from Strava heatmaps plus a cool-down on the Greenway (I need lots of cool-down
) It was raining when I rolled out, and I thought "well I won't be out that long" so I went back in and left my extra water ... then it cleared up and I just kept going. I kind of missed the rain later - it was over 70° and not at all uncomfortable.

Just five miles Sunday after fixing a flat. Thought about joining a couple of casual group rides today but the 40 mph wind and my mushy legs were discouraging me. Fortunately the flat tire settled it. I fixed the flat, rode around the block a couple of times to be sure it was settled, called it a day.

I overdressed so 2/3 of the way thru the ride I folded and stuffed the lined jersey into the windbreaker rear pocket. I felt like a kangaroo in reverse. Our fearless leader (he's 74 and thinks he's 18) took us up a road that was posted "Trucks Only - No Pedestrians or Bicycles" at bout an 8% grade. 1/3 of the way up that steep hill I turned around and went back. I found out it climbs for a long way (over a mile), then goes down again as far, but ends in a dirt road full of trucks so the rider has to climb up the hill again. Ha! No wonder I usually ride solo. 20.7 miles (33.3k) on the Roubaix.

So Sunday was our local bike advocacy org's annual spring 100km ride. Saturday was cloudy, windy and cold (well, Hawaii cold) but rideable. But about when I went to bed it started raining. Got up at 6 to load up and still raining pretty good and cold (actually, was a record low for the date 61 F at the airport). Looked at weather underground and didn't see any holes in the rain. I just wasn't that excited to spend a few hours in the rain, getting splashed, and having to go through ponding so I blew off the $60 I spent for the ride and went back to bed.
Monday, natch, the weather is pretty good. I might just do the ride unsupported later this week for the heck of it.

Ran into two friends on the bike path so I spent about 1/4 of the ride time jaw-jacking. 17.9 miles (28.8k) on a finally-warm-enough-for-just-a-jersey (and long pants) day. Now that it' warming up the weekend will be in the low 60s, windy, and rain (sigh).

Stunningly gorgeous late FL afternoon ride. The kind of day you wish you could put in your pocket. Extended it a bit SW of Bronson towards Cedar Key, but there was no where near enough light (or hydration) left, so I pulled a U-turn and headed NE. Could see a cyclist's rear lights heading N on the final six miles, and almost hunted him down before making a quick right into my subdivision. Averaged just a tad under 20mph in zero wind conditions, for a total of 48 miles.

Biked to work today. And back. Strangely enough, rode to work with WSW winds as I rode North and rode home with WNW winds as I rode South. Just a bit of a headwind on a short stretch. Intermittent tailwinds to and from work. Yay! (22 miles)

20 miles Tuesday evening. Energy felt way down but I still managed a little faster times on a couple of segments. Beautiful evening, warm, dry, not too windy.

I got 73.8 in today with an average speed of 18.3 which for me is really good. Trying to get ready for Assault on Mt. Mitchell in two weeks.

Didn't get a chance to ride yesterday but I did manage a nice 40 mile ride today. For a change, the wind wasn't that bad but it was very warm and humid out this morning.

I bought a pair of Rock Bros sports pants (Chinese 4X) about 2 years ago that were way too tight (U.S. Large) for my 215lb frame. Wore them for the first time today. Looks like cycling shorts temps tomorrow. A fast 19.0 miles (30.6k) with a moderate headwind—both ways—against the earth's rotation

33 miles Wednesday morning, and a much faster than average first half (for me). The turnaround leg was tougher as a storm front blew in. Got soaked with rain. Then the 25 mph head wind kicked in. Still a good ride.
And found out that while my Pearl Izumi Select Barrier jacket is very definitely *not* rain proof or even resistant, it does still work as a windbreaker, so I didn't feel chilled when the weather suddenly turned. I tried riding a bit without it but felt very uncomfortable as the temp dropped into the 60s for awhile and the wind was blowing pretty hard. So even a soaked windbreaker still offers some advantages. And it's so thin and lightweight it fits inside a quart sized ziplock bag. Not much excuse to leave it at home on iffy weather days.

Been a dream of mine since I started reading up on it last year. No chance this year, but I'd like to take a crack at it before it becomes too late (I'm 59). Best of luck, 73mi at 18+ sounds pretty good in preparation. Keep us updated!

Since I don't know the roads well in the section of Portland area where I'm visiting, decided to drive to a known trail for carefree steady pedaling for miles. Got about 30 miles on the Banks Vernonia Trail.
A bridge with Trex(?) plastic decking = Nice bicycle accoutrement, even for Portlandia region.
And the final short stop was a place where I thought a guy named the farm because of his inability to aim well. It was largely a free-range chicken farm, also very Portlandia - except for the smell.
Just what the Doctor ordered on a sunny day.

Came home from work exhausted, and bonked. Awoke an hour later and did 26 miles in mostly calm but warm conditions.

I may have to move up to Gainsville if you guys are having all those calm winds. I was going to do a 60 mile ride today, before this weekend's MS-150, but the winds were so bad I gave up after 44 miles. Struggled like crazy just to get 18 mph.
Some of the gusts kept us at 12-14 mph. When I ended my ride, I was so worn out that I forgot to end the ride and about a mile from the parking lot, I heard my computer telling me my fastest speed was 45.48 mph.
