10 miles Monday evening. Supposedly just going to Braum's only a mile away for bread, bananas and a few odds and ends. Went the long way 'round.

22.8 miles (36.7k), same as yesterday (different bike). Still a little cool on the bare arms and fingers at 8:30 but sunny. Annnnd the inevitable late morning wind.

Listened to the weatherman again and didn't ride this morning. High percentage of rain and radar showed lots of heavy rain early in the morning. Wife had me do a honey-do and by the time I was done it was almost noon. Yep! Not a drop of rain. It's been raining steady since 12:30. ⛈

We got SO much rain today, almost 4", but remarkably, the sun broke out around 6:30, so I decided on a shortened ride of 20 miles. Roads were dry, but lots of residual puddles and debris everywhere. It was very quiet, almost no traffic whatsoever. Like the rains scared folks away.

45 Miles, got a very late start, after 2:00, caught the warmest time of the day, 88°. I'm at 1965 miles for the year, will break 2000 next ride.

70 miles today, past a lot of busy farms. Headwind increased on the way back in, gusting to 28. It was at 10 outbound.

22 miles Tuesday to check out a good used road bike. First one I've ridden in 30+ years. Felt pretty uncomfortable and a little more efficient, so I'll try it for awhile.

Some friends and I ignored the weather reports for this morning. Bad move - severe thunder storm with lots of lightning. Good thing we decided meet for breakfast first. No ride but we had an awesome time at breakfast.

24.8 miles (39.9k) on ye olde trusty Aluminum Allez (carbon fiber forks, Tiagra/105). I only ride this bike about once a month because I have 3 other carbon fiber bikes (Tarmacs & Roubaix). I keep thinking about selling it but then I ride it and think, "No way, I love this bike". This coming winter I'll put on treaded (as in cyclo-cross) 28C tires and use it as my winter bike. It's only 21lbs as I ride it. The pinnacle of aluminum bicycle building in 2005.

Like every working day since April 3rd, rain or shine, 40.5 km for my daily commute (a bit more last month while the bike path was flooded).

20something miles on a new-to-me road bike, my first in 30+ years. Not sure about the distance or speed since the GPS kept failing. But I was taking it easy to get accustomed to the bike. It's very twitchy, and the balance is completely different for climbing out of the saddle. The lighter weight is offset by the aggressive gearing so there's no spinning up hills. And the lower handlebar position is a bit hard on my neck. But it'll come back after awhile.

15.5 miles (24.9k) in a nasty 20+ mph wind (gusts to 40 mph). Ergo, the shortened ride. Forecast is for colder days over the weekend, 47° and wind at 8:30AM. Back to the winter gear until the middle of the coming week.

Still feeling my 4.8mi MTB ride last night. Probably the 500ft within a mile climb with that 19% grade at the top.

Looks like 42/52 front, 13-24 freewheel. I usually need a 30T chainring and 21, 24 or 28 rear for those hills on my heavier bike.
The Suntour GPX system can handle a 28 rear if I give up the indexed shifting and go friction only. It'll do both.
I'll plug away awhile as-is.

Up at 5:00 AM because I couldn't go back to sleep. It was already raining pretty hard. By sunrise, it had stopped and the sun actually came out along with some blue skies, something we haven't seen around here in several days. Rushed down to the park to take advantage of the weather, hoping to do a 60 mile ride, and got in an almost dry, 40 mile solo ride. Got caught in a downpour about 1/2 mile from the van so I quit while I was ahead. Forecast calls for rain for the next for the next two weeks but they are saying it's going to be our typical afternoon showers and thunderstorms.

I've never been a good climber and I'm not gonna get any better with age. I'd rather save my knees. So I may try swapping out the 42T chain ring for a 40 or smaller if I can find something compatible with the original Suntour GPX group -- not sure whether it's a generic fit or not. With a smaller chain ring I can probably get by with the original freewheel. Not sure how easy it would be to find a compatible 14-28 freewheel, haven't looked yet.
During Thursday evening's ride I briefly rode with a couple of acquaintances before our paths diverged. The route involved a short but steep climb. The young woman rides about like I do -- comparable speeds on the same routes. When we hit the short steep hill she downshifted and spun up easily. I stayed in the 42/19 combo and climbed out of the saddle -- about 60 inches, instead of the 30 or 40 inch gear combo I'd normally use with my other bikes. It was hard on my knees and no faster -- I struggled to keep up while she spun up easily. And I was wobbling around on an unfamiliar bike -- the Centurion front end is fast and twitchy.
Not something I'd like to repeat so I'll check around for options for more appropriate gearing.

27 miles or so on the new-to-me Centurion Ironman, mostly trying to regain a feel for a road bike with drop bars. Not wobbling quite so badly today on most hill climbs. Very pleasant evening ride. Kept bumping into folks I know so we stopped to chatter.

Rode to work today, and accomplished my first weekly goal of commuting 3 days a week! 22 miles round trip. My legs feel like rubber, my butt hurts, and I'm having more fun than I've had in years!

4.0 miles (6.4k). The weather web site didn't say nuthin' 'bout no rain! I was appropriately dressed for the cooler (almost cold) weather and, of course, the sun came out just as I got home. Clouded up again right away. Looks like rain-to-come.
Less miles for this month than last year but still 317 more miles for the year.
