Bikes: A Bianchi C2C road bike, a steel framed touring bike and a Xootr Swift folder which has made the rest redundant!

Just back from a short (22miles approx) ride down the coast. I Put my Xootr Swift in the back of my car and 35 minutes later was riding along the Solway coast of Cumbria here in NW England. It was very windy and I had a cross head wind heading out but a nice tail wind riding back!

The photos show how choppy the Solway Firth was today. The Solway Firth lies between England and Scotland and it is where the Irish Sea narrows to squeeze between the two land masses. The hills across the water are in Scotland. In my haste to get there I left my Garmin computer at home so no record of the ride other than a few photo's and great memories. The legs remember the battle into the wind!

Another typical 40 mile ride with my cycling buddy, Frank C. Seems as if the temps are going down somewhat since the temp never got into the 90s on this morning's ride. Gotta love it!

33.5 mi. 85 degrees/40% humidity (excellent). The first time on Domane with anything other than a light breeze...+10mph. Noticed it most when crossing me, maybe the 40mm wheels. No biggie though.

30+ on country hills. The last 10 in rain showers with temps in the low 60s. I'd kill for a hot-tub after one of those.

Grocery run today. Maybe 10 km round trip, 35 lbs of fruit / veggies in the Arkel panniers.

28.2 miles (45.4k).Took the car to have the battery checked, rode the bike from and back. All good things to say about Pep Boys. Ye Olde Beast ('02 Mercedes SUV) is functioning well ($2,700 on transmission later). Bikes are a lot less expensive in the long run.

Biked to and from work yesterday and today: 20 miles each day. On the ride home today noted a car way too much in the bike lane - when I caught up at a light, I yelled 'You're in the bike lane!' Car immediately moved left and lady said as I rode past "Sorry, wasn't paying attention."

It was drizzling this morning when I got to the park so I decided to check the weather and decide if I wanted to ride or go home. Didn't take long for the drizzling to stop and the sun to come out so I ended up doing a 30 mile ride. I opted not to do the subdivision portion of the route since there really isn't anywhere in the subdivision to shelter yourself from the rain. Met my friend Karen at the west parking lot and had a nice chit chat ride with her on the way back to the van.

26.1 miles (42.0k). M-F I end the ride at the Senior Center for a good lunch (my breakfast), then 1.5 miles home before it gets too hot.

35+ in perfect weather and good hills with flats in between.

Dunno about you guys, but it takes me a good long time, about 3+ hours on most rides like that. Partly the hills, but I stop at least once, some times twice to stretch, snack, etc.

Sixty miles today: Home to Portland Jetport and back. No pictures because I didn't bring a camera: I had to bring a 20lb. bike lock, so I was trying to cut down on the weight.
68 degrees when I left...71 when I returned. Just enough cloud cover to make it pleasant.
I was about 50 ft from a Jet Blue 757 that was taxiing, and I felt compelled to jump the fence and yell at him, "You got a bell on that thing, mister?!" Safety counts, especially on the runway.

Hi John, I was just wondering, since you guys get daily rains in the summer, do you ever get chills, shivering or low core temperature readings during or after your warm-weather rainy rides? Paul

49 miles on a partly smoky day. There are 12 or more forest fires in the Pacific North West and the last few days it was so smoky that you couldn't see more than a few blocks. Missed a few rides. Today wasn't totally clear, but a lot better than the last few days so I went out. The wind must have changed during the last few miles because it got really smoky for the last few minutes. Wasn't really healthy when I started, but was very bad at the end. It's been smoky for the last few months, getting very tired of it.

Rode the Raleigh from my new home to my old place (kept the 'Stang in the garage at the new place tonight). 2.8 mi. per the Ford, more like 4 with my roundabout ways (would've helped if I'd charged the headlight battery).

40 miles Friday night... maybe? Strava quit during part of the ride. A bit windy but the Harvey storm cooled things off a bit up in this part of Texas.

33.2 miles (53.4k). A nice ride to Mayberry Park, but, got a front flat 2 blocks from home. Better there than changing it on the road in the hot sun. Goathead stickers will flat anything.

A very nice 40 miles this morning. The skies were so dark it looked as if we were getting ready for a hurricane but not a drop of rain fell during the ride. I wasn't complaining but it was a very unusual event.

I try not to ride in the rain if I can avoid it but when I do, I seldom get chills during or after a wet ride. On the times that I do, it happens if I'm out in the rain for a long time and the temperature drops into the mid to low eighties or high seventies.
