No ride last night - tired from the weekend's outings and attended to some badly needed maintenance on the Domane. Unfortunately I need to make a previously unplanned trip to NJ (parents) this coming Saturday afternoon, thereby cutting my Santa Fe Century ride to either 68 or 55. Ride starts at 8:30 AM, wheels up to the airport is 12:20 PM; I should be able to get 68 in under four hours.....

One more good ride today, then a recovery on Wednesday - I'm as ready as I'm gonna be........

Woke up to some pretty hard rain this morning. Weather guy said it should be done by 8:30 and, for a change, he was right. Met my buddy, Frank C, and did a really nice 40 miles on some very wet roads. The sun never did come out, which was a plus, but the humidity was pretty high.

21.6 miles (34.8k). The days are quite warm but the mornings are still cold. 40° to start and had to shed some clothing before the end of the ride. Finally got the shoulder replacement surgery scheduled for Nov 20. I should exceed last years total of 5,365 miles by then. The weather is usually bad in Dec-Jan-Feb anyway.

All of the preparations were completed after dinner in anticipation of a 1AM departure this morning. Set the phone alarm for 11:30PM and asked the BOSS LADY to make sure I was up by midnight if I didn't wake up. Got outside a little after 7PM to view the ISS fly-over, just made it through a hole in the clouds, and then bed at 8:10. Wound up waking 10 minutes before the alarm went off so a resounding 3 hours of sleep and everything was hunky-dory. Hit the road at 12:41AM under a dark but star-lit sky. Just wanted to average 15mph since Sunday night was 31 miles, yesterday morning was 62 miles and today was to be 124 miles. Always great to have a plan that gets fulfilled and then some. 127 miles with a 16.8mph average for the first 77 mile segment and then a 17.5mph average for the second 50 mile segment.

Looking at a 2AM/3AM departure tomorrow for another 62 miler.

2018 Roubaix Expert is to be in TOMORROW!!!!! Not holding my breathe though. First ride should be a nice 100 mile break-in on Friday or Saturday.

I've been in FL for almost 5 years, and never have I seen such a grey day. We're talking upstate NY grey. Anyway, much as I enjoy a break from the sun, it was cool and very windy to boot. I knew cruising out at 24mph I'd pay it back on the return, which I did. At least I knew it was coming.

Finished up just under 30, bike is dialed in, and feeling good for Saturday's Santa Fe event. No reason to overdo. Disappointed to have to cut it short, but will aim for the 68er if I can keep up a good pace.

Sat. afternoon it's off to NJ, then VA for a week of riding. Same new bike as OldTryGuy awaits me, I'll give it a good break-in in the Mtns!

Had some low grade nausea this week. I've been on an antibiotic for the past week and apparently it wipes out your gut microbes which causes intestinal issues. Been eating a lot of yogurt and I think that's helped.

Tried to do a set of 2x20' at tempo this morning and wasn't really feeling great, but need to remind myself it's October.

Cut the ride short this AM so only got 57 miles done. Will have to double-up tomorrow.

22 mi for longest MTB ride ever. Man I love these TX hill country rolling hills vs super long and steady climbs in CO. Climbed over 1,000 feet yesterday and finished fresh and ready for more.

Very windy 25 miles with riding buddies Steve and Frank C, then a 15 mile solo ride to end the day. Except for the rain, the weather was almost like it was yesterday with overcast skies and a little windier. The sun didn't come out until just before I ended the ride, which was nice.

You guys are gonna love the Roubaix! I have a 2011 Roubaix Expert (different frame w/o Future Shock/Disc Brakes) and it's the 2nd best bike I've ever ridden, the 1st best being the 2012 Roubaix Pro (carbon cranks, Roval carbon hub wheels, UI2 electric shift). IMHO it's the very best road bike, probably why it's the #1 selling road bike in the country.

20.6 miles (33.2k). Sunny days but still very cold (40°) in the morning. If properly bundled it makes for a nice riding day. I'm slightly overdressed by 11AM, base layer, riding jacket, cycling wind breaker, balaclava, and hunting mittens.

40 very tough, windy miles in final preparation for Saturday. The Roubaix is certainly something to look forward to - Hopefully we'll hear from OldTryGuy....I'll chime in once I've had a few rides under my belt.

Did You Ride Today?

I wish! I have a back strain due to work. Also, we have had 40-55 mile an hour winds and some crazy down pours of rain. The good news is my back is feeling a little better and the flip side of the coin is this storm will be lasting a couple of days. I just continue to do my walking and back stretches.

Got out at 12:01AM this morning for 63 miles. FABULOUS!!!!!!!! Just showered, had some breakfast and getting ready to head out again for another 50 to 75 miles. Meeting some other riders and will check out the drafting abilities of the bike.

A very windy metric century with my buddy Frankie. We were suppose to do this ride yesterday but he couldn't make it so we ended up doing it today. I wish we had done it yesterday since it was no wheres near as windy as it was this morning.

23.8 miles (38.3k). I suited up for the inital cold and was overdressed (again) by 9:30AM. This time I stuffed the windbreaker into the rear bright safety green jacket, but still had the heavier mittens. Well, my hands didn't get cold . Took the Roubaix Expert out today (3rd time this month), what a great ride.

28.3 miles on a beautiful day today. I took the Sutra off-road a bit to look at a stealth camping site I will use in the future to test my setup. I felt very good after the extended stop in the woods. I do love the Sutra, but I plan on buying a faster bike as I would like to cover more miles in the shorter available hours. I know I can put smaller tires on it but why resist a bona fide reason to buy another bike?

40 mile group ride Thursday evening. I hung on a little longer at B-group speed, but dropped off about 12 miles in when we hit a few hills. Caught 'em on the return trip but I was gassed. Still a huge difference between my 16 mph pace on solo rides and hanging onto a group at 17-18 mph. Guess I'll need to keep working on my hill climb intervals.
