I dusted off the ole Hybrid today. First time I have taken it out for a spin since last Spring. Heavy steel, plus 15 mph headwind, plus uphill meant my legs forgot what a workout riding this bike can be. It was the hardest, slowest, and longest 130 minute ride in a long time.

Was expecting rain off and on today so we went to the YMCA and, among other exercise, I spent 20 min. on the recumbent exercise machine. Zero miles.
Realized mid-afternoon that rain likely to hold off till tonight so...........since it was about 50F, went out for a ten mile ride. Gray and damp but......... Woo-hoo!

Yeah, same here. Rain coming in sometime very early in the morning making tomorrow a likely washout.

Sunday --

Today I got out for a rather challenging bicycle ride. I cycled up one hill and then decided to tackle another one right away ... up to a look out point.

Then everything was a bit of a mad dash ... quick bite to eat, groceries, and making scones.

First time I've ever made scones, and I had to make them fast so that Rowan could give them, and the jam, a try before he went to bed!! They turned out reasonably well ... just that next time I make them, I might make them slightly larger.

And the jam is all right ... tastes good, could be a little firmer, but all right. Especially for a first attempt.

After taking 10 days off the bike due to illness, I rode Saturday, Sunday and Monday. I think the last time I took 10 days off the bike was over four years ago!

That was a good ride.
If you don't mind my asking, what was your average speed, and how long to complete the ride?

The storm front came through pre-dawn, but only lasted a few hours. With a good 20 mph westerly wind it didn't take long for the roads to almost dry out. There were still lots of puddles. I got in 66 minutes, but I also wanted to get back home before school let out. This avoids all those school buses and distracted soccer moms. Watch out for those puddles, because they can be disguised potholes.

Because of the government shutdown, I did not get to ride today. I'm looking forward to commuting to work tomorrow.

10.5 miles (16.9k). Sunday I made it as far as the Marina, turned around and went home (2 miles). Too freakin' cold! It wasn't fun anymore. Today I drove the SUV over to the bike path in the afternoon. Still cold but not as much. I'm suddenly feeling all of my hard 72 years.

Still hurting from a marathon 2 weeks ago and the 144 miler last Sunday so I just trudged along at a 17.4mph moving average. Ride time was 5:55:42

Got out at 3:20am under cloudy skies and sure enough the drizzle started. Managed 35 miles so far and will be taking a break until it clears up.

We were snowed in last week, so I rode the turbo trainer. Finally on Saturday I got out for a 17 miler under cloudy skies, and on Sunday did 22 miles with near-60 degree weather, warm even for the Memphis area. Trails just thawed out so I stuck to paved paths and roads. Because of holiday obligations (family gatherings and other dainty social events for work and church) I wasn't able to get on the bike for three weeks, then the snow and ice came in. I rode my wind trainer a few times while watching MTB videos which wasn't bad, but it was great to get out of doors.

What a difference a day makes!

Yesterday was 60ish with a strong southwesterly wind, and today barely 40ish with a strong northwesterly wind. I got in 60 minutes anyway.

Bikes: GT Transeo & a half dozen ebike conversions.

I did yesterday when we touched 50F in Chicagoland. 10 miles on the local bike path. Only saw two other bikers. Today we have an inch of snow, but it will be warm again (50F) on Friday.

Sunny 50F day, but we still have those brisk NW cold winds. I tacked against the wind on the way out by trekking through some neighborhood roads going north, then west, then north, etc. When I finally got to my turnaround point on a major street, I headed back going east then south. Got in 90 minutes.

Last night I heard the weatherman on TV say our next major Arctic Blast should be in here in about 2 weeks or the first week of February.

One of my riding buddies turned 64 earlier this month. Today was to be his birthday ride but things didn't go as planned. Between the starting temps in the low 50s and a very chilly, 10-12 mph northerly wind, we only managed 41 miles before my sinuses got the best of me. It should start warming up in the mornings again by the weekend so maybe we'll give the birthday ride another go.

I try to ride every day. At least 10 miles. When I tour I try to do at least 30 every day. I don't smoke, drink, do drugs (except aspirin). I usually ride 5000 miles or so every year. I am semi retired, will be getting social security next year.
