It's supposed to be 50F today, but with the cloud cover and cold southerly wind it feels more like 40F. I got in 2.0 hours that seemed to go by rather quickly. I could have done more, but I wanted to get in to warm up, and to get a start on those dreaded Income Taxes.

I rode yesterday for 18 miles, but was pushing hard due to strong winds. Some enjoy the solitude but I actually prefer riding with friends.

FINALLY, after 2 weeks off the bike I got back on at 3:31AM today with winds 14mph and gusting. The 2 week hiatus was because 13 days ago symptoms started then blossomed into a wicked cold-thank goodness not the flu, had a not too pleasant infection with last Friday night being the worst and almost made an ER visit, slogged through the Half Marathon at Celebration, Fl last Sunday setting a PR but the bad kind as in the worst time ever, spent Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and much of Thursday in my pj's under a blanket on the couch with yesterday finally being the turning day. Really couldn't hit at a worse time since next Saturday was to be my 400 mile/24HR Bike Sebring attempt and now it will just be a do the best I can.
Hopped on the bike and looped around the neighborhood to do a systems check then headed out on the roads. A number of gusts pushed the bike which is not a "good thing" on dark roads at 4AM and for the first time I bailed to available sidewalks as some cars approached from the rear. Initial outing got me 45 miles by the time I made it back home for a quick breakfast. Best bicycling buddy showed up at 8AM and we rode the 5 miles to the start of the Saturday ride. Groups moves out and 2 miles into the ride a hand is raised and FLAT, thankfully not me. I decided not to hang around and told the leader "I'm doing the route so you-all catch me since I'll be moving slow." Finally 22 miles later, most of it into the wind they catch me as we all turn into the first stop. Turns out another FLAT happened and delayed the catch.
A quick break then back on the road and this time finally drafting as #2 in line behind strong best bud. We turn off the main road and I pull over to let the group pass then hook on the rear only to be dropped 6 miles from rest stop. They turn left-I turn right and do my own thing back to the house battling the wind and using it when available. Pull into garage at 12:45PM with 114.06 miles on the Garmin. Already had a quick snooze and now for some Alaskan Salmon, sweet potato, Coor's NA.

25 years or so ago I was OK to be mt. biking in pretty cold temps - 5-7 F or so.
Haven’t done much cold weather riding in many years, usually this time of year conditions suck, snow, mud, etc.....
Went out this morning with a buddy to the local trail system. It was 15 and blustery. My finger tips are now sensitive to the cold due to frost bite damage so they took about 15 minutes for me to warm up and for the fingers to stop hurting. Then a window of about 20 minutes before my feet started to get cold, bad circulation sees them cold in October lasting to April, yuk, yuk.
So age has caught up with me a bit and I think I’ll pass unless it’s at least 20F out or so.

32 miles Saturday. I was supposed to take it easy, let the bruises on my knee heal (had my first clipless fall last week, dinged my knee). And for the most part I was loafing. But couldn't resist taking advantage of the 20 mph south wind to try for some new PRs. Got one new PR, beat my old best by four seconds. Nice cool afternoon, other than the fairly stiff wind this week. But it's been consistently out of the south or north, not too much swirling around.

73 delightful degrees in sunny San Francisco. Did a 22 mile ride along the Bay Trail. In a tee shirt. Got a little bit sunburned on my arms. I'd put the sunscreen away for the winter, lol.

40 Miles. It was a very nice 55 degrees today. I'm shortening my rides so far this year. probably will ride further once it gets hot. I rode way too much last year.

2 addictions in 1 day. girl scout cookies & cycling. I'd curse the 1st if it didn't force me to cave to the 2nd. meaning, I ate too many cookies so when I tried to talk myself out of riding in the cold, I couldn't. I had to ride to try to burn off the cookies. so, thank you girls. hate you, love you

This morning's temps required short sleeves only and the sun was out at 8:00 am when I started my ride. With that in mind, I had good intentions at the beginning in wanting to do another metric this week but the winds had other intentions. Winds were mostly side winds at 25-30 mph that started to appear around mile 15. My riding buddy and I are both around 150 pounds and we were getting tossed all over the road. It was getting a bit too dangerous so we stopped at 30 miles. Good thing too, because it started to rain shortly after we stopped.

!?! There's no such thing as "riding too much".
18.2 miles (29.3k). A little cold, sunny, the usual. Slowly getting my strength back. It still takes extra effort to do 15 mph. 16-18 was my usual last summer.
2018: 390m (628k) ♂ Total: 21,374m (34,398k)

I waited until the temperature rose to 45F before heading out. I got in 126 minutes with nice clear skies, but a cold NW wind to lower the wind chill.
I hear there is some football game on today. As I say this time every year: I have not watched one game all season, so I see no reason to start today. But I will check out the commercials online as they are released. I noticed some have already been released. I watched some last night and again this afternoon

Nice one hour recovery on the rollers, catching up on some TV. Recovering form a killer good gravel ride yesterday - totally shredded my legs over 43 miles with 230 TSS. Originally I had planned to go up to the mountains, but as a cold front had gone though (mid 20's) - no thanks.

13.4 miles (21.6k). I had VA appts. all morning (pre-op, cataract surgery next week) so I went out about 2:45. 63° and sunny, nice change from 40° mornings, but encountered some stiff wind. Wind Wimp!

43 Miles. 55° today rode up towards the mountains only a few patches of snow, there was over 10' of snow this time last year. It's a long grind up, but a fast easy return.

Rode to work again today. Drier than yesterday, but also colder, and just as windy. I did however dress a bit more prudently for today's commute, so overall it feels like a better ride (...so far; hopefully I still feel that way on the return leg tonight).
