36 miles today on the old Motobecane. Relatively calm wind, upper 50's. The sun never really did break through the clouds so it remained a little chilly. Met and chatted with another "seasoned" gentleman on a Willier. Nice ride.

21 miles Saturday, got home just before the rain and t-storm hit. Finally feeling like spring, a little warm and humid but pleasant. Felt better than the last couple of rides.

About once every five years I get a new pair of cycling shoes. Happened midday today.
https://www.rei.com/product/881856/g...ike-shoes-mens
Late this afternoon tried them out on a 7 mile ride in 40F weather. They feel good and get along with my pedals on all 3 bikes. (Actually only rode the ti 'bent but tried them with the others in the garage.)
Tomorrow hope to try them on the tandem - supposed to get up to 50 and be sunny.

A windy ride south of Portland.
Might as well get the flag right first.

I have not ridden in a couple days, because of inclimate weather. And, I didn't venture very far from home today, because of the threat of more rain and storms. Managed to get in 93 minutes.

Cold start to the day, but we warmed up to about 60F this afternoon, with lots of Mr. Sun.
Stoker and I got out for a 25 mile ride on the Screamer.

Yesterday: 48 mile mostly solo ride. My wife was out on her cross bike trying to get some dirt practice, and we hooked up near the end of the ride. Rode the last 15 miles home together (although I wound up pulling for most of that, because her cross bike is a tank & really wears her out).
Today: Commuted to work. I'll get the usual 19 miles by day's end.

47 miles so far this morning before FOG put a halt to the ride. Began at 1:07AM hoping for 5 hours of bicycling bliss without traffic. Traffic was almost non existent but FOG began to form and put a halt to the pedaling. Early morning weather on TV was saying .25 mile visibility but it was more like 25 feet where I was riding. Hope to head back out soon for 53 additional miles plus.

I did an easy 16.5 mile spin on my Fuji Absolute hybrid with a friend yesterday that's new to riding. I did the longer solo ride on Saturday where I pushed it a bit. I forget how peaceful and relaxing an easy pace and a good conversation can be while riding.

It started out nice and foggy with a 0% chance of rain throughout the morning. Around 15 miles in, while waiting for the fog to clear and the sun to come out, it started raining. I happened to be right next to the country club clubhouse so I stopped there to wait out the rain. The radar wasn't looking so good at the point so, about 20 min later, I headed back to the van. Got on the south loop of the park and caught some more drizzling so I decided to see if I could outrun it since it was going in my direction. A total of 23 miles for today before the rain caught up with me. Of course, living 3 miles from the park, it stopped raining and the sun came out just after I got home.

Fog finally lifted as the sun rose. Got out for second attempt and finished with an additional 56 miles for a Monday total of 103 miles.

21 miles Monday morning. Hadn't planned to ride but saw it was a sunny, cool and windy day with an unusual wind straight out of the west. Perfect for chasing some Strava PRs on a couple of tough segments with roller coasters and climbs that usually thwart me.
Broke into the top ten on two segments, including number two spot on the toughest of the two (also the least ridden). I'd like to claim I was close to a KOM, but... nah. The guy with the KOM was nearly a full minute faster.
Gotta admit, it's a blast going that fast. Especially on climbs. I haven't been able to ride that fast since I was in my 20s. Now I need a boost from invisible doping. I'll take it.

54 miles Sunday. It was 45° I guess that's warm for this time of year. I never really got in the mood. I can't wait for it to warm up. There is a long steep hill for the last 35 minutes of my ride. A light snow started falling. Stopped by the time I got to the top, but a few minutes later the road was very wet, I guess I missed the worst of the storm. Came very near being hit by a car going 35+ a few blocks from home, I thought for a second I was going to die. Was entirely my fault, I never saw them.

Monday evening got out after work for a 7 mile ride in windy breezy cool conditions.
Sorta wintry this morning for first day of Spring.

Got the Giant off the garage ceiling hook and prepped it for this mornings organized ride. Turned out only 3 other riders showed instead of the usual 10+. Still rode the basic 42 mile non-stop route and with the additional mileage had a 63 mile day. Winds picked up to high teens (+) at the finish. After yesterday's 103 miles I was glad we had a small group because of tired leg syndrome.

41 Miles on a 55° day. I didn't get much sleep last night so I cut my ride short. After a winter of subfreezing weather 55° sounded like a warm sunny day. Well I was very glad I had my tights, Med warm gloves, long sleeve jersey and the jacket I've been wearing all winter. Never unzipped the jacket.
Its only pain

First time this year I got my bike out for a quick ride. Put in 21 miles during lunch on my new carbon fiber wheels....88mm deep rides weird, just something I need to get used to. Nice cold ride,,,,it was in the low 50's. I started wearing a heart monitor, MyZone and compared it to the indoor riding I do. Amazingly it showed I ride just as hard outside as inside. Heart was working all the way.

22 miles Wednesday evening. Nearly perfect weather, low 70s, clear, just a bit of headwind on the hilly bits that made those more challenging. Not quite as impressive as Monday's tailwind assist on that same route.

Second day of Spring started out crappy - snow all over the place! But all melted by time home from work and sunny! Mid-40s. So, out for a modest 7 mile ride with a couple of small hills.

Does "variable winds" mean that no matter which direction you are heading on the bike, the winds are nearly always coming from that particular direction?
Actually the winds were supposed to be "light and variable". Despite feeling like I was always pedaling against the wind, I got in 2.0 hours on a seasonable early Spring day.

The NW Avalanche Center forecasts weather in the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges. Sometimes they get it wrong when they call for "light to moderate volcanoes". Being within ash distance (given the appropriate wind direction) of 3 major volcano cones - Rainier, St.Helens, Adams - the typos or mis-predictions CAN be a bit disconcerting. Winds are not generally a big problem for us.
