There is no doubt which direction the winds were coming from today with a strong 10-15 mph out of the south.
Got in a very slow 101 minutes just cruising through some nearby neighborhoods while trying to minimize those winds.

We've been promised SPRING SNOW for Saturday but upper 40's and sunny much of today so took the afternoon off from work and got in a modest 18 mile ride.

29 miles Friday evening, with 20 mph wind from the south. Hoped to crack the top ten on a few segments but didn't quite have the legs and lungs. Still improved on a few times. And paid for it on the flip-flop heading back into the wind. Beautiful warmish weather, only a little muggy.

Got to bed at 11:30PM last night and obtained the obligatory 2 hours of sleep but just couldn't get myself in gear to get out at the scheduled 2:30AM. Finally, with all the little duckies in a row, I was out the door at 3:30AM to begin today's 100 miler. First segment of 40 miles riding the 2018 Spec. Robaix Expert went smoothly. Back home for a bite to eat, kit change and bike change to the Giant Propel, wait for sun to rise then out again. Left a little late to meet the gang at the LBS so picked a route where we had intercept at mile 54 for me. Drafting is SOOOO MUCH MORE FUN and easier than solo riding so the miles ticked by quickly as speeds managed to get to 28mph. Had some good leg burning moments riding with the gang and with their help logged in a total of 115 miles as I rolled back into my driveway.

I went out around the block today--in rural terms, that came to about five and a half miles. I'm still slow, I averaged about 7 mph, though the first mile was almost all downhill and took about five minutes. After that it was uphill most of the rest of the way. I'm getting stronger, but still have a way to go with that. Just good to be out riding again.

A steady 80 km today.

Was riding mostly side-on to some strong winds. Not a big fan in those conditions.
At one stage I thought about heading into them, up a long climb into the hills but changed my mind.

Along the way, made a couple of detours to explore some gravel tracks along a couple of rivers. That was fun.

Need to catch up.

Thursday: Wife and I went to Tarpon Springs to drop off our tax papers and then went on our annual Tarpon Springs to Clearwater and back ride while the taxes were being prepared. Had lunch in Dunedin on the way back at a nice outdoor cajun grill. A total of 26 miles.

Yesterday: Did the annual Clean Air Ride in Inverness, FL. Rode with my friends Karen and Steve. It's Karen's birthday on Wednesday so she and I rode her birthday ride. 64 miles for the day.

Today: A nice but very windy 44 miles with my buddy Frankie. The guys with the deep dish carbon wheels were having a hell of a time keeping their bikes straight and upright.

Milestone: "The Hill"

In the 10+ years we have lived in our current home, I have never been able to pedal up the long hill to our driveway. For the past two months I have been training at the gym for a 25 mi charity ride in May. Today I decided to tackle "The Hill" and made it to the top. I was winded and had to use every gear, but my legs didn't fall off! Still, going downhill is much more enjoyable

It's been really nice in the PNW area, no rain and no strong winds. For two days in a row I've packed up my touring bike with all my necessary fishing gear, my mini stove, lunch, coffee and tea and headed out to my favorite fishing holes. Saturday was a 28 miler and today (Sunday) was a 17 miler. Not many miles and no fish, but it was doing the two most important things in my life. I'm happy. The rain has returned and the wind will be upon us tonight.

19 miles yesterday, with my first crash in years about 4 miles from the end. Right ankle is jacked, right knee had a puncture and is badly bruised along with the right elbow, but thankfully no head impact, collarbone, or road rash. Was able to ride it home. Sore as heck this morning, but the bruising matches the blue on my hybrid...

Near-record snowfall on Saturday but just about all gone today. Biked to work for only the second time in 2018. 21 miles total.

59 Miles. I hadn't realized I've been off the bike for 5 Days. It was a balmy 46°, but I was never warm. Cold on the first 2 downhills. Was cloudy, never saw the sun. But I guess 80-90% of the time I'm looking at the road 10 to 100 feet in front of me. I need to look around and enjoy the country roads I ride through much more. Had some great views of one the mountains, the rest were hidden by clouds.

Even more wind today preceding a storm front due in later tonight. With winds around 15-25 mph and gusts up to 40 mph I was being pushed all over the roads. Add some of the usual lunchtime traffic, which made it feel too hazardous.
So I headed to some nearby neighborhood streets where I felt safer. Those winds wore out my legs in no time, and it was the most difficult 2 hrs and 15 min ride in recent memory.

Went for the outdoor ride today before the snow flies again!. Winds were gusting to 34MPH and the headwinds were crazy hard. They weren't as hard as the crosswinds though. WOW! Great workout for a quick 21 mile ride again. So far the miles are piling up on Strava for me.

Had ripping winds today, 15mph/20mph with gusts up to 30mph so I swapped the 50mm front for my 20mm front and glad I did. Even the 20mm had side load movement, just shows my upper body weakness.

Hooked up with a reduced Tuesday group of guys and thankful I did since their power helped me get the first 50 miles done in short order compared to if I was out solo. Second 52 miles was much-MUCH--MUCH slower and leg burning.

Same in the middle of the state for yesterday. Only got in 25 miles on this ride. The bike and I weigh about 167 lbs. and the wind was just tossing me all over the place. It was getting to the point that it was dangerous where I was riding. Got back to the van after the first part of the ride, checked my wind app and saw more of the same, packed it up and went home.

Today's winds were just as bad but unfortunately for me, I was already into the second part of the ride when the really nasty stuff hit. I did manage to get in a good workout and a nice 40 miles today.

18.7 miles (30.1k). First ride in 12 days (health/weather). Sure felt good to be "back in the saddle". The weather is finally starting to warm up (a little).

22 miles Wednesday afternoon. Rainy, chilly, windy, and I didn't care. First chance I've had to ride since Friday. Felt good to be out again. But the cleanup ain't fun. Should have taken the hybrid, although I need to put the fenders back on.
