15.46 miles, getting to the Southeast Armed Forces YMCA for Family Bicycle Day. The wife and I on our trikes rode sweep for the "Community Ride", Kids On Bikes, supplied bikes for kids that don't own one, helped them learn to ride, set up training courses and fun ramps. Our Trikes are the perfect machine for doing sweep as no matter how slow the kids ride, we can ride slower and NOT fall off!

Today was last ride before surgery so I had to make it count. 121 miles, long and HOT.

107 km in 3h59m14s (so less than 4 hours
) I chose a path that was 99% MUP or bike path, no roads so didn't have to deal with cars.

1 mile Saturday, just laps around the parking lot. First actual ride since I was clobbered by a car in early May. I've used the bike on an indoor trainer for the past week or so and felt like I could handle a little spin outdoors. Shoulder still stiff with limited motion but getting better. I'll probably wait another week or two before a real road ride.

Last year I fell on my own and bruised my ribs pretty badly. But while the pain persisted for weeks, it was mostly noticeable in bed, especially trying to roll over or get up. But I was back on the bike within two days -- it actually wasn't bad as long as I didn't push hard enough to breathe heavily. Sitting upright on the hybrid was fine.
The past month I'd been doing all the recommended physical therapy at home and last week tried the indoor trainer, which went so well I worked up to 1 hour, then 2 hours with only brief breaks.
So I'm hoping I've reached that turning point where I can make some progress.

Thanks, it's making progress. I'm just very impatient. Before the injury I was in peak condition, best shape I'd been in since my 20s, and I was looking forward to making real progress in cycling this year. So it was frustrating, and the shoulder pain was persisting longer than I'd expected, keeping me awake most nights.

Yeah, I was a little worried about some cardiovascular issues because my blood pressure was spiking rapidly after I began riding on the indoor trainer, usually to around 160/90. Then it would gradually decrease a bit until I sprinted for 30-60 seconds. But after some research it appears that's normal for many folks. And my recent physical exam showed no problems, although it would take an overnight monitor to detect my occasional arrhythmia.
I still have a thyroid and trachea issue left to resolve, but I won't worry about that until after the July exam.

60 miles yesterday with my buddy Frankie. Wasn't as fast as the one we did on Wednesday but a good ride anyway. This morning the wife and went out to ride. Forecast said no rain until after 1:00pm. Got done with my first 25 miles and while I was at the van having my snacks, the wife pulls in and said she was done. Sky was really starting to get dark so I opted to end the ride with 25 miles and go home before it rained. Yep! It never did!

It was another rainout yesterday with more storms moving through late last night. The temperature was only 88 this morning, but the "feels like" temp was 100. That is what 70% humidity will do for you. I managed to crank out a grueling 2 hour ride before the next round of storms, which are due in later this evening.

Question for all here; Does anybody like riding in the rain? I've often thought it might be fun, but then I think about all those cars that seem almost out of control on dry days.

It's mainly for health, safety, and confidence reasons. At my age I don't want to take any excessive chances of taking a spill.
I also don't need to add dodging wet spots on busy streets, All that may be my confidence or lack of it talking.

8.5 miles with vicious winds - seemed to be in my face no matter which way I was going. Reminder - must start rides earlier - while mother nature is still waking up. At least I didn't run into another sand storm Ride I will never forget. Who ever said old farts can't find excitement?

20 miles this morning... longest ride since I started cycling again 10 days ago. Had to slow down for an elk in the road at one point early in the ride. I have a looong way to go before I'm fit enough to do a century again!

8.5 mi @15.5 mph avg on trainer. At 8,500 ft elevation O2 problems still exist but I see improvement.

15.6 miles - took it relatively easy today - longest ride since returning to bike a month ago after a quarter of a century away - I still hate hills

18 miles today as a bike commuter. Donated blood this morning while at work so rode home one unit low. Not a problem but tried to take it easier than usual.

My usual 50 miles. Spent some belated Father's Day time with my daughter We did some hiking, but I was off the bike for 3 days. I felt like I had a little extra energy today with all that rest.

17 miles Monday evening, my first real ride since a May 9 collision injury. I'd been using my road bike on an indoor trainer for the past couple of weeks but wasn't quite ready to put that much weight on my shoulder on the road, so I took the comfort hybrid I resumed cycling with three years ago. Still comfy, still a pleasure to ride when I dial down my speed expectations.
Only intended to ride around the block a mile or so but felt pretty good and decided I'd better replace my helmet -- it smacked the pavement last month and while I didn't see any damage, what the heck... I wanted a hi-vis yellow helmet for rides in traffic anyway. Rode 8 miles to REI, got a new Bell Formula MIPS. Seems good. Shoulder was achy on the way home but seems to be getting better.

I gave the legs a rest from the bike yesterday, but mowed the yard for some exercise.. All that heat and rain lately is causing the bermuda grass a growth spurt.
I got in 2.0 hrs on this very hot and humid morning.
