Slick bike.
A buddy and I rode the driftless near Prairie du Chien a couple weekends ago. We didn't passed by a single car.
Yesterday I headed out for a 40 miler. Just after starting I heard jet engines right above.
A block later I was out from underneath the tree canopy and saw two A-10 Warthogs, low and slow,
flying an orbit directly overhead.

31 miles in beautiful weather. Brings me to the highest annual mileage since the early '90s.

Nice drop in temperatures along with lower humidity and winds hitting 15+mph FINALLY resulted in a no soak ride. Able to finish today's 122 mile ride not dripping in perspiration. Even a tad-bit cooler weather rolling in.

Back in N.C. after driving back across the US from Oregon......Cycle Oregon is now in the rear view mirror.
61 miles yesterday at a harder than normal pace. 50 mile slower ride this morning.
Piedmont NC is such a good area for training and pleasure rides.

I actually rode 2 bikes today. Rode my Airborne Zeppelin a quick 15 miles this morning. Then I jumped in my car and drove 2 hours to check out the second bike I rode, 2003 Lemond Poprad. It is a bit tall but I do really well on bikes a bit too tall. It is in great shape and, in my opinion, was a bargain at $500. The wheels had been upgraded to Mavic open pro's/ultegra hubs. The drive train all upgraded to Ultegra 6500, except for the front derailleur, which is still Sora. Handlebars, stem, seat post and saddle all upgraded to various brands. Almost new G'skin, 32 mm tires. Frame was powder coated last year and looks like new. Seller is the original owner and was able to answer any questions I had. I am psyched to take it for my first ride on it tomorrow morning. WOO HOO!

43.4 today. Good ride, broke thru 16 mph ave. again. That's happened 4 of the last 6 rides so I guess it may be the new normal. New bike should be in Thursday. Then the learning curve for that will be interesting

Love the 7-11 jersey and your buddy's Lemond.

Yessir! I make and fly kites! I flew a boxkite that I rigged with LEDs and a 9 volt battery. I live in the country so to speak so when I'd fly it at night people in their cars would turn into my lane to see what was going on with all of these hovering blinking lights in the sky! My neighbor was a sheriff and would get 'UFO' calls. He knew what was going on and wouldn't give out my secret! When cars would get close to my house I'd just hide while flying the boxkite. It flew really well. If you ever tour around Winamac, IN then see it at the Tortuga Inn. I gave my kite to Glen and Linda of the Tortuga Inn so they could put it in their Kite Room. The have my 6 foot span Pteranodon kite, too! I have some 'Della Porta' style kites. I'll try to get some pics if anyone interested. Sorry for hijack!
HA, I'll PM you. Been flying since my 30s. Grandkids like it, my kids humor me and my wife just shakes her head. Flown them all but prefer single line, just like to see the laundry fly. Boxes and Deltas work for me.

I rode around 20 miles yesterday. 30 miles on both Saturday and Sunday. I try to ride at least 15 miles a day, when it's not raining. Now that I have my enthusiasm for riding back after a 22 year drought, I'm wondering what the heck I am going to do over the long winter. Back on the treadmill probably. A fat tire bike may be in the future. Otherwise I will ride until the snow and ice covers the roads around the Twin Cities.

41.6 First ride on new bike. Had to adjust seat position about 1/2 inch but everything else was good. I'm no where near as capable as this bike. Didn't spin out on downhills and much easier to climb.

This morning, I went for a quick 13.65 mile ride down to the James River here in Richmond, Virginia and back home. My God, is the river low! Exposed rocks all over the place as the river is about 5' down from it's normal level (We seriously need rain!!)
Sorry, no photo of my beloved '85 Fuji Del Rey (I was on it at the time), but I took a quick photo from the Huguenot Bridge, looking upstream at the river.

101 miles Sunday, my first solo century (or century of any kind) since November 2017. I'd planned to do more centuries in 2018 but injury and illness (broken shoulder after being hit by a car, then thyroid cancer diagnosed when they checked my neck for injuries) changed my plans so most 2018 rides were under 50 miles.
I finally began to feel strong enough this year to tackle a solo century. Did lots of rides up to 50-60 miles, but the old neck injuries usually limited me. I did lots of physical therapy this year to compensate.
I'd planned to wait for cooler weather -- it's still been nearly 100 here in Texas throughout September, and most of my longer training rides have been at night. But I felt so well after a 40 mile group ride Sunday morning I decided to go back out after lunch. Did the remaining 60 miles after 1 pm. It was hot, dry and windy but felt pretty good. Figured if I waited for "better" weather the opportunity might not be there. I have an endoscopy for my throat and thyroid and followup with endocrinology this week. Decided to tackle the century first in case of bad news, although I'm not expecting any problems. But once that "C" word is in your head it's kinda always there, hard to dislodge.
As usual, the hardest part of a solo century after about 75 miles was the mental game. Yeah, my neck and knees were aching but I knew if I stayed too close to home it'd be too easy to bail out. So I rode far enough away to force myself to ride back and finish the dang thing.
Longer rides are easier for me with group/event rides. Helps to have a little company, even if we're just commiserating.

"I'm pretty tired, think I'll go home now." Actually that was only the 56 mile mark. I slugged down a pint of Monster java juice with protein, a quart of sports drink, ate a Hostess cherry pie and was fueled like a hummingbird.

Found a decorative bushy dried plant leftover from a picnic party. Decided to spruce up my bike a little. Felt kinda bushy tailed the final 20 miles home. 76 mile mark.

I started out yesterday on my Giant propel to do 75 miles because that's what i needed to break 5,000 miles by the end of September.
At 5 miles, my rear shifter cable breaks and I have to turn around, but no worry, I have a 40+ year old Italian Gianni Motta that I swap in for the rest of the ride.
76.1 miles, 17 mph south wind and 89º.
