15.2 miles of gravel road yesterday on the Giant LaFree. Then took the bike to my local bike shop for its (free) maintenance check, and to make one or two adjustments. Want to have the ebike in top shape and be ready for a whole year of riding in 2020.

Unfortunately I will not be riding outside much until late March. Don’t enjoy the cold anymore.
Fortunately I have a road bike on a smart trainer and Zwift. Doing 80 to 100 miles a week, started off the new year with 32 this morning.

First 100 miler of the year!! 103 miles with 5400’ of hills. I rode 30+ miles with our local cycling group and 70+ miles solo. 30 degrees at the start and 53 degrees at the finish. I took about 10 miles of new roads to me which gives me another option riding over to my in-laws house. Beautiful day to be outside!

Good sized group with a New Years ride stop.

Today’s route included some roads on the Southern Uwharrie loop.

One of my favorite rides!

Water Tower #1

Lots of good choices of cycling roads today!

Water Tower #2

Traditional selfie at the High Rock Lake dam. My in-laws live on the lake about 10 miles upstream.

This particular road has been used for several organized rides.

Doesn’t compare with @jppe, but I rode 20.20 miles this afternoon.

12 miles on 1/1 (40's and sunny) and 13 miles today (low 50's and cloudy). Both rides on short wheelbase recumbent accompanied by spouse on her Trek Verve+. Weather supposed to take a turn for the worse next few days.

jappe, very impressed with your milage in cold weather. Below 50 and my face and ears keep reminding me how cold it is and I think it hampers my overall efforts even though my core warms up. Could be my age (70)...but I'm just not that fond of cold weather. Of course 50 degrees with sun is different than 50 degrees overcast with wind. Crap...I'm cold just typing this.
And when did Bojangles become training food?

For commuting I was riding under 40 degrees, but road rides I stop at 45 and it has to be sunny. I'd rather do an indoor session than be outside and cold. The last outdoor ride I did last week I never could quite get going, at was 45 and not as sunny as I thought it would be.

43.5 SOLO miles today. Jersey seemed to fit the bill once I realized the headwind seemed to be blowing in both directions.

I really dislike cold weather except for riding in it. Now the colder the better. It just feels refreshing. After a lot of experimenting I’ve figured out what clothing works for me. My thin wool base is perfect for warmth and moisture wicking. P,us I know I’m going to be slower.
Riding in sunshine vs cloudy conditions at the same temperature is a huge difference. Sunshine makes it feel much warmer.

About 20 miles, total, Decatur Library, SOPO Bike Co-op, and back. 40 degree temps and gusting wind! Met a new friend at the shop while helping him with his brakes.

We had planned to stop at a coffee shop next door to Bojangles but it was closed for New Years. I didn’t even go inside. But their Bo biscuits might have been okay????

Yes, finally, after Ten Days of Torpor. The bike is now framesavered and reassembled. I also replaced the rear shifter cable and gave the RD a good cleaning; I suspect I picked up some oily gunk back there which made the RD return spring not do its job. Other than RD adjustment still being nondeterministic, now that I have all the tools it was straightforward to get the bike apart and put it back together. Then I had to wait for rain to pass which I expect you Atlanteans got too.
I've been walking all along but that's not the same as riding, so I did five miles of neighborhood hills to warm up, napped for three hours, then rode at dawn this morning, 28F, 20.2 clear and cold miles. I saw a (lone) coyote this time, at the end of the ride, across the highway from my neighborhood instead of out in the wilds.

62 miles with 3000’ of hills. Unfortunately my average miles/ride for 2020 has dropped to 82 miles..........I’d planned to go longer today but some days it’s better to just sit up and ride.

I was on the bike, but I wouldn't call it a ride. I spent the entire afternoon troubleshooting my trainer/power meter setup. It was driving me crazy. I finally determined the issue was interference from the wireless router. Who'd a thunk it? I'm too irritated to do my FTP test. Maybe early tomorrow morning. Technology... bah!

Today I got out for my first 90 minute ride in a couple decades (I'm just getting back into cycling after stopping back in 96). I kept my heart rate really low for this one. My arms were getting tired by the end. Hard to believe I used to ride 4x as long back when I was younger. I've definitely got to get my body back in riding shape. I did runs as long as 18 miles in 2019 but that doesn't seem to help that much with the riding.

Ten miles yesterday afternoon (40's and cloudy) followed by a trip to the YMCA for upper body/core/weight bearing exercise.
Today: Another ten mile ride (low 40's, breezy, cloudy) late in the afternoon, ending as sun was going down. Gonna get some Winter one of these days.

Last night...30-ish minutes of suffering in the garage, including 3 max-effort 53x11 intervals. My legs are feeling heavy this morning.
