Today's commute was interesting and different. One thing about working for a company making things that operate in environments that can go boom is they can order a random drug test. I got such a summons. So not only did I get to ride my bike to and from the office, I got to do an additional 10 mile round trip from Woburn to Wilmington. Total of 40 miles today. On this vintage machine, 1972 Peugeot UO8 which I bought new and have upgraded quite a bit:

It was humid and moderately warm to start the day, By midday (actually 1PM) when I rode off to Wilmington the sun was bright, the air dry and cool, and the wind strong. Same for the commute home, except it was cooler, almost but not quite chilly.

I know, most of you aren't especially "into" vintage bikes but I think they are cool. The UO8 was extraordinarily good for an inexpensive bike-boom bike, and Peugeot sold a zillion of them. If I didn't have a bunch of other good bikes I could be perfectly happy riding this one all the time (though it wouldn't be my choice for a hilly century!) I could lighten this further by removing the rack, lights, and generator, but I keep the lights for just such a use as commuting when the sun is low. The old Pug is going to see a lot more use this fall.

Sweet UO-8 Pug, Jim. I always enjoy the pics of it here. Now, are you busted for PEDS or just for some other illicit substance, like say, water or a Clifbar? The C&V bikes are number 1 on my list, if i only had the funds for one, I'll find one someday and build up my dream old timey ride.

Thanks. No PEDS or HGH yet that I know of. But I should studied harder for the alcohol test because I got a zero.

C&V bikes are indeed fun and generally inexpensive. I didn't intend to develop a collection but they follow me home like puppies.

This weekend's rides, 30 miles Saturday through and around parts of Vancouver, and another 30 on Sunday along the back roads of Fort Langley. Stunningly beautiful sunshine throughout.

Pre-work ride this morning on my hybrid, 17 mi. @ 18.8 mph avg.
2.5 mph avg. slower than my road bike on the same route, it feels really sloooow.

Had a 45 mile ride scheduled with a lady that is doing the Coast to Coast ride with me. Waited half an hour after our set departure time and she never showed. The late start was enough to cut my ride short before getting hammered by rain. Got in 31 miles. Weather forecast is for rain into the weekend.

Rode 25+ miles in wonderful first day of Fall weather. Mild temperatures, 79°F, and only 40% humidity, very rare for here to have it this dry. Supposed to be back in the regular humid range by tomorrow afternoon, though. It will be nice while it lasts!

80 degrees, about 6 or 7 miles through my neighborhood. Visited some shops, locked the bike up and had lunch at a local eatery. Autumn is starting wonderfully.

twenty miles bike commuting today. Cool in the morning, but not cool enough to complain about cold fingers - hi viz green handyman gloves were warm enough, thank you.
Perfect 70F sunny weather for the ride home.

Haven't had time for a ride after work lately, so yesterday I commuted to the office for the first time. 7.64 mi. round trip.

People really don't know how to react to that. I'll do it again before the week is out.

Finally! No rain this morning so I was able to get my 45 mile ride in. For some reason, the legs are a bit tired today.

Did 65 miles today on my trike with two other trike riders. Not bad for a 62 year old, a 63 year old and a 65 year old.

Five miles this evening after dropping off the Vibe at a tire store to get a tire patched. Hooray! They were able to patch the holes from a staple. After checking out prices for car tires (and installation, etc.) , guess I shouldn't complain about the $$$ we just spent on new Schwalbe tires on the tandem.

Hurray for you guys! (sez the 68 year old). I'm averaging 128 mi/wk but have yet to go for more than 32 miles in one stretch. 2014: 3201 Miles

I'll procrastinate tomorrow.
