The ultimate mercy depends on your philosophical leanings.

For the materialist/secularist/classic Buddhist, the ultimate mercy is death, extinction, annihilation.

For the theist, the ultimate mercy is salvation, glorification, Heaven.

Your choice, not mine to judge, like, whatever.

For the Bonkist/Blowist, the penultimate mercy is to have the house to yourself after a bone-crushing ride.

I got it and for me it's peanut butter pandemonium ice cream!

"PEANUT BUTTER PANDEMONIUM
This vanilla ice cream is loaded with peanut butter cups, peanut butter and fudge swirls has become a favorite since its introduction in December 2005 (formerly Peter Butter Pan). It tastes so good, it will put your taste buds in a frenzy!"

If that is next to last, what is last?

Nice recovery.

As you said, "...like, whatever..."

It's still a nice story and I see I am not worthy to ride in your draft.
I'd just crack, anyway...

Reading the story wouldn’t the last mercy be death? To me it sounds more like exhaustion.

The point has been missed. The Bonk is really about hatred and self-loathing. "I hate this damned bike, and this damned road, and my stupid useless body now moving in ever so helpless, painful slow motion and then time slows to full stop even though I know I'm sorta moving but this damned ride will never stop and I hate all of you around me, too."

But then, after food, water, and couch time.............I love everything again.

Strange.

Exactly.

OTOH, I had a solo ride on the 4th: 52 miles, flatish, cool temps, lots of fluids, plenty of water breaks, nice scenery. In other words, bliss.
