Time with an old friend

http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w...n/DSCN4120.jpg Over the last three years I have been riding my 20" wheeled folder (Xootr Swift) and loving every minute. However, today I dusted off my 20 year old tourer and gave it a spin - wonderful!! The frame is Raynolds steel with nicely cut lugs and I bought it 20 years ago. Since then it has been built up with a variety of components and now has; Campagnolo triple chainset with full Campag drivetrain - 9 speed. The wheels are by Mavic and were buiilt up by Mercian cycles in Derby, UK. The steel frame was made by a firm called M. Steel in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne UK. I had forgotted how plush the ride was on this machine. It is a lightweight tourer and rolls along smoothly and without effort. It is true; You can't make new Old Friends. What a delight to ride! |
Really beautiful bike! My touring bike is a Vincitore by Mercian in Derbyshire. Old British bikes are great!
Mine still has downtube shifters but is scheduled for an update to bar-end shifters. Rick / OCRR |
Ooooooh - ain't 'dat cool!
The only negative I can think of is, if I bought it, I miss out on part of the fun because there isn't anything that I'd want to change. That bike is perfect just as it stands. |
A beaut! Kinda reminds me of an old open set MG with the leather pouch on the back. A classic and IMHO nothing rides like high quality steel.
