Paid to Pedal
I got paid to pedal my bike today.
At work they were shooting a video that required scenes of someone riding a mountain bike and someone riding on the Big Dam Bridge. Since I'm the company bicyclist, I got the part.
I had to take the fenders and rack of my commuter so that its full Hard Rock heritage came shining through.
But it leaves me with a question. Can it really be mountain biking if you are riding next to a swamp?

If you're getting paid to pedal, then yes, you're mountain biking. What a deal. Congratulations!
I'm sure a number of us have paid to pedal in various and sundry events, but I suspect that very few of us have been paid to pedal. You da man!

I thought it wasn't mountain biking unless you're covered in mud.

Is that big dam swamp near that big dam bridge? There may be some big dam mosquitos around there, be dam careful, you may be applying for some big dam workers comp pay.

Remember, MTBs were also called ATBs before the industry and culture settled on MTB. Riding next to a swamp is all-terrain biking. It's legit.

Unfortunately, I'm a salaried employee, so no extras for this performance.
The bike did have mud on it, from my commute that morning.

Isn't it a great feeling? Got lucky a number of years ago and was paid by my employer to ride my MTB to find remote sites for geophysical test wells on timber company land (with their permission). Many of the sites were on gated roads and the company was just as happy to not have to issue us keys or vehicle use permits. It was only for a few weeks but it was one of the best job assignments I ever had.
