WOW!! I've never heard of that. Yes, for a 6 or possibly 7 speed. Put me down for someone who did it. Brand new Madone 5.2. Biking in Florida 100 miles/day on a trail. Clean and lubricate the Chain every day. Hardly any rain (was winter). The bike started to act up after 10,000 miles of it. I was training for CC Tour for 120 days. I replaced everything the chain touched. Several hundred dollars. I check the chain for stretch but find little evidence of it. I use high cadence biking with not too much sprinting or standing while biking. |
Chains do not stretch. they wear out from dirt grinding on the pins under the rollers. This wear elongates the chain. We call it chain stretch. It's really chain wear.
