Anyone on testosterone replacement?
I just got a physical and my blood test showed a low level of testosterone. My doctor recommended trying a testosterone replacement gel call Testim.
Anyone have any imput on testosterone replacement? |
How big a concern are increased prostate problems when you go to testosterone replacement?

Makes you able to run the 800 metres faster than most others.
Don't think the Prostate will be affected- unless you already have a problem with it. |
There is considerable concern about prostate cancer risks rising when testosterone is added.
Wonder whether there are any specifics about the degree of risk, etc |
|
The risks do not appear to be high. Let us know how it goes.
Go for it and find a 20 year old. :) |
Unless you display symptoms associated with low testosterone, I wouldn't bother treating it. In my case, I was fatigued and was putting weight on around the belly. I went on a topical treatment and feel much better in all regards. The 20 year old suggestion would cause more problems and resolve none for me! :)

This

I've heard it works better than Grecian Formula for Men. ;)

Wonder whether there are any specifics about the degree of risk, etc Or is that concern about adding testosterone up to normal levels? Are said normal levels age adjsuted? Saying "there is considerable concern about" something without saying what the specific concerns are (ok prostate cancer was implied), and the specific circumstances when the concerns apply... well, you get the idea. |
Low testosterone reduces prostate problems. that's why surgical or chemical castration is sometimes used for advanced prostate cancer. Raising testosterone to average-for-age increases prostate problems to average-for-age. The anti-aging idea of raising testosterone level for a 60 yr old guy to that of a twenty year old probably isn't a good idea because the prostate gland is still 60 years old. if the friendly neighborhood urologist has already cut/lasered/cryo'd/microwaved it to the size it was as a youngster then maybe the youthful testo level might not be so bad.
If your testosterone is low-for-age you need additional testing to find out why it's low. your doctor can order blood tests for FSH, prolactin and ferritin. if your FSH is not elevated then you should get an MRI or CAT scan of the head with attention to the pituitary gland. |
^^ Ding! Lookit that. Actual information on BF. Whodathunkit.
