My Saturday Ride

Wanted to participate in the Door County Century, but obligations got in the way of me getting in shape for it. Instead, I decided to do a "Ride Your Age" ride (52 miles) to one of the local historical sites. Weather was about perfect for riding, though the rider petered out at the end. Don't think I had a century in me, but half that worked out okay.

Here are some pics:

Nice peaceful little park. I've been there a few times and there's seldom other people around.

The whole thing is put together with peg construction - not a single nail or screw. Workmanship is amazing.

I'm sure it will be standing long after me!

Don't be too certain- The Graffiti is creeping in already. Once that gets hold- The next thing is a nice tidy citizen sets fire to it to clean up the neighbourhood.

I have always wondered about these Covered bridges---WHY?

I have heard a few explanations, none of which seems particularly plausible:

- Keeps horses from spooking when crossing the bridge.
- The roof preserves the wooden bridge structure.
- It's a service to travellers who get caught out in bad weather.
