Hummingbird/Stage Coach--Hardcore Technical...on a UNICYCLE!

Since I'm in the "over 50" category, I hope it's ok to post this here:

Wow..just WOW! I arrived at the bottom of Hummingbird trail at 7:45am this morning, (Simi Valley, CA) and set out to ride (my mountain unicycle) all the way to the top and drop back in. I hooked up with a cool hiker who was more than happy to hang with me and he also used my camera to film me on the way back down.

After that ride, I met 2 more hikers who joined me for a ride down Stage coach, aka, "Devil's Slide", which isn't far from Hummingbird.

I was able to get more cool footage, including some great "Uni-cable-cam" shots! This was tricky since there aren't many trees to tie to, so I brought a couple steel stakes and a small hammer, so I had something to attach the two cable ends. This was really the first technical riding I've done using my cable cam, and I'm pretty happy about how it came out!

So here's the video, and I hope you enjoy it! The video quality will improve once it's fully processed.

You're a wild man! Great looking trails. I'd love to ride them on my Stumpjumper. Is it as painful as it looks?

Haha, not like you may think. High volume tire absorbs a great deal of impacts from drops and will roll over stuff well. And when doing drops, jumps, or anything where there's impact to the wheel, all the weight is on the pedals and you're up off the saddle.

The only real "pain" comes from hours of riding over the technical, rocky terrain. But it's not really pain as much as just muscle fatigue. Then of course, if I have a bad "UPD", which is short for "UnPlanned Dismount". I've sure had my share of those!

I think we need a "sticky" for bicycles with one wheel! Err, is that a contradiction?

We do have folks post here with bicycles with three wheels.

I'm getting an "error occurred" on the video.

Did I see you and a couple other 'unigeezers' in Sullivan Canyon one time? They were jumping off stuff and seemed to be having a great time. I think it was early this year or late last year.

"UPD", which is short for "UnPlanned Dismount".

I think we need to add this to our vocabulary/dictionary....

I thought we had a "mental health" clause in the 50+ forum. Based on the evidence in the video, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't pass!

Seriously, that's an amazing video. Love the shot when you encounter the hikers who are their way uphill while you're going down.

"Error". Have you tried it lately? It should work fine.

Most likely it was me. I've ridden Sullivan more than 350 times! I'm sad that it was closed and they bulldozed the WHOLE trail, and uprooted lots of trees. Hopefully it will reopen again soon and the rains will carve some new trails!

The Unicyclist community has been using that acronym for a long time, but it can also refer to bikes. It's just a little more "unexpected" --as in you didn't see that one coming--when it happens on one wheel, lol.

There were at least 50 in that group! More than I've ever seen there at once.

I like Terry's response in one of the other videos. He encounters a lady hiking along the trail, and she comments, "You're fun to watch!" Terry's reply, "So are you."
