Breaking news in Colorado!!
A ghost rider mysteriously showed up at his house in Colorado after a long bike ride on an experimental bike. The bike, silver in color, was an experimental bike for 50+ riders looking for a combination of comfort and speed. Authorities tracked the bike's progess for several hours before it stopped, with no rider aboard. The ghost rider, a young boy, indicated he was just doing what he saw his neighbor do so often. He was later to be heard to say he didn't know that riding a bike could be so much more fun that playing video games. The boy's Mom was heard to say that Boys will be Boys!!

This incident raises a question I think about occasionally. What could you do, sitting at home, which, in an hour, will result in you being on live national news (short of killing a bunch of people)? Putting the baby in a helium ballon and floating it across the state is not something I had ever come up with.

I was out for a ride after I heard the story but before the balloon came down and before they found the boy. It was bloody windy out there -- I was riding between two big hillsides and the Venturi effect was daunting, to say the least. I couldn't imagine what it would have been like for a scared little kid in a balloon -- yikes.
Fortunately it was a moot point; the kid was up in his attic, probably scared because he'd let the thing go.

"I did it for the show"
Quote from the little boy, who was never discovered after intensive searches of the house and grounds. Anyone got some deodorant?
Calculations by a hot air balloon expert in NM show that no way could a balloon of that size lift a 50?? pound boy. Wouldn't this boy's dad - knowledgeable in this stuff - know that from the git-go?
Do they still make air-wick?

Cycle Year Round
I am not sure that DAD is that smart.
I am pretty sure that the original idea was to be a UFO hoax that did not go as planned.
Interesting that DAD had the FAA phone number immediately handy and called them before calling 911.

UPDATE:
The frantic search began when Falcon’s brother reported seeing him climb into the device on a day off school in his home town of Fort Collins.

Lots of talk radio stuff in Denver about an apparent "hoax" - the dad called the media before calling 911.
Balloon boy gets sick twice during TV interviews
By P. SOLOMON BANDA and IVAN MORENO (AP) – 24 minutes ago
FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The 6-year-old boy at the center of the runaway balloon saga got sick twice on national television when he and his father were asked during separate TV interviews what he meant about his comment that "we did this for a show."
During an ABC interview, Falcon Heene (HEE'-nee) said Friday: "Mom, I feel like I'm going to vomit." He then left the room with his mother and could be heard gagging.
During a live interview on NBC shown simultaneously, Falcon threw up into a container when his father was answering the same question.
Falcon vanished around the time that a homemade helium balloon floated away from his home, setting off a national uproar as authorities scoured the plains of northern Colorado for the youngster.

Didn't the parents appear on some wife swapping reality show? Sounds like they are publicity-seeking hoaxsters, IMO.

Don't agree at all - IMHO it was well calculated. He either wanted the publicity or wanted to sell his balloon design.

Sorry to repeat this point, but does anyone know why the children were not in school when this went on? Louis, above, says he heard in an interview there was no school on Thursday or Friday. Does anyone know any more than that?

Here is the official school schedule:

Looks like school was not in session, unles the kids go to a charter or private school.
