100 and 60

Turned 60 today; celebrated it with my third century in 3 days, 84th for the year. (Did 4 last year and one in 1979.) As I explained it to my wife: I don't mind being 60, I just don't want to be old. Denial's in full swing, don'tcha think?! :D

Happy 60th. Three centuries in three days is a nice bit of riding regardless of age. In denial? No, just eager to get on with life would be my suspicion. So, ride on!

Personally, I don't mind getting old (that started the day I was born and hopefully won't stop for some time yet). I don't even mind all that much that there are somethings I used to do that I can't do anymore. I am, however, eager to have more time (read become semi-retired) to put in more miles. I envy anyone who has enough free time to ride three centuries in three days and a total of 84 for the year. Unfortunately yesterday (your birthday) found me grading a rather large stack of final term papers.

Late Happy Birthday and congradulations on 3 Century rides in such a short time, I did my last century ride in 1984 and don't know if I'll ever get fit enough to do one again. Right now I just want to break the "BONK" I feel at 35 miles in a day so my wife and I can do some "overnight/weekend tourning" in 2010! :)

Still working full-time, but now out of the classroom doing computer support for the school. Like you, I wouldn't have had the time if I was still grading calc exams every weekend.

I'm in no way recommending this much riding for anyone. Not sure I want to keep it up - there's a lot more to living. But I did want to show myself what was possible, even for an old fart. Of course, the hardest part about winding back down a little is the fear of giving up the conditioning I've achieved. As I used to tell my kids when I coached, it's harder to get in shape than to stay in shape.
