Suspenders instead of Bibs

I've been using my old skiing suspenders to hold up my shorts & tights, and they work great. Adjustable, comfortable, and you can pee without taking everything off.

RonH 02-09-10 05:50 PM

The main reason in wearing bibs is to not have a waistband or drawstring cutting off your breathing. VERY COMFORTABLE. I gave up shorts for bibs in 2003 and never looked back.

Bibbs make it much easier to Pee than shorts. Have you actually tried a pair?

George 02-09-10 06:32 PM

I tried suspenders and now I have 5 pair of bibs.

Kurt Erlenbach 02-09-10 06:47 PM

Fred-o-licious!

Without pics it didn't happen.

Monoborracho 02-09-10 07:12 PM

This thread is a joke, right?

SaiKaiTai 02-09-10 08:21 PM

Whoa! 50+ gets snarky

But, yeah... really? Suspenders?

stapfam 02-10-10 01:24 PM

So how anatomical are these suspenders? Do you wear them over or under the jersy and what colour are they?

Bibs work and like George- 5 pairs of bibs- one pair of conventional shorts. The shorts are for when the bibs are in the wash after a heavy weeks riding. One ride with them and I make certain I have bibs for tomorrows ride.

Must be nice when soggy with sweat. ; )

Be careful what you wish for. Note that I wear a second jersey (in my left hand) over the suspenders, so my fredishness is hidden from the world.

The funny face in the picture comes from the effort of sucking in my gut.

For me, there is only one problem with shorts and tights -- they tend to slide down for some reason, and I end up constantly pulling them up. The suspenders solve that.

Bibs

ahsposo 02-10-10 04:14 PM

Hey, whatever it takes to hold 'em and you are comfortable with.

Myself, I have a front porch you can sleep a dozen dogs under and I like my bibs. No plumber butt. Elastic at the thigh is stretchy enough to pull aside to pee. At least that's how I do it. Nobody ever taught me otherwise.

Kurt Erlenbach 02-10-10 08:44 PM

You know, it's really not too bad an idea.

It beats riding behind someone with plumberbutt.

waldowales 02-10-10 09:15 PM

Hey, I have pair of 'spenders just like those! Maybe I'll try it!

rumrunn6 02-12-10 11:40 AM

I use suspenders cuz I wear non cycling specific snow pants and gortex rain pants for commuting this time of year. however I need to adjust them. the other day my legs were a little exposed over my boots and I had to slide the legs down a little. the suspenders follow the trousers meaning 1st my base layer and maybe a fleece shirt, where both get tucked into the trouser. the fleece vest goes over the suspenders and the jacket over everything - so no one ever sees the suspenders. the trousers are loose in the waist and do not bind.

It's all in the eye of the beholder.

No need to get selfconscious and hold the stomach in- Lycra does that

jdon 02-12-10 02:12 PM

I'm a big fan of "whatever works for you".

chipcom 02-12-10 02:21 PM

I love my bibs, but sometimes I wear knickers or pants that need holding up. ;)

Bib tops are a form-fitting piece of engineered performance material that provides proper suspension to entire garment. A good pair of bibs will be so comfortable as to be virtually unnoticeable, even when riding hundreds of miles. Suspenders? Not so much. For casual rides though, I'm sure they work just fine. Like spd sandals... ;)

I'd like to read about the bike. Looks like a nice touring set up. I've got an old Bianchi hybrid with flat risers and grip shift I can't make up my mind whether I want to put drops and bar ends on it or chuck it and buy something new.

Right tool for the job...duh. Does it look like I am embarking on a century or a crit in that photo? Dems my commutin through the hood clothes. When I was commuting this route, wearing my bibs only got all the crack hos chasing me looking for a good time and 50 bucks. ;)

It's just a 2005 Fuji World and it's gone through a few changes since that pic.
