Joining Today!

Well, today is my birthday and I'm 50. I've been getting mail from AARP for a couple of weeks. My wife reminded me that this year I can participate in the "Senior Olympics", and as I sit here, I'm waiting for my co-workers to come up with some completely sophomoric action.

But, you know what? I really don't give a tinkers D$#@ what they do.

I'm riding more already this year and feeling good on the bike. I planned to go out and ride my age or a little more tomorrow but it doesn't look like the weather will cooperate. So, I'll be in the shop building up my friend's LandShark track bike and wishing I was on the road. I'm already planning the century and metrics I want to do this year. I'm also thinking about converting to road tubeless tires. I'll never be a 155 lb racer, but I plan on riding for another 30 years anyway.

Life is GOOD!

Welcome. I think attitude is the most important part of biking and life. Your good attitude will take you far.

But only 30 years? You need to work on that.

I think once I get to 80 I'll buy a Ducati. After all, we all need variety in our life at some point.

Congratulations: Now, in order to obtain full membership, you have to spray paint "Seniors Rule" on a highway overpass. Neatness counts.

The priority has been asked- Reply required

What is it about 50? so long ago I can't remember but I reckon it must addle the brain. You reach 50 and start thinking about Tubeless tyres.

I can think of better things to do on my birthday.

Being southern, there is only PECAN PIE. Best served warm and gooey and made with a little dark chocolate and bourbon. .

Good choice. Pecan would be in a 3 way tie for first with me along with rhubarb and lemon merangue.
I learned to be careful of the pronounciation of pecan in the south though. I'm sure I was not the first person that truck stop waitress in Georgia corrected when she told me, "thats picawn, honey, not pee can."

'Round here it's pi-con, some of the Carolina folks use the pee-can variant, but it all eats good... Geowja seems to have that more genteel southern drawl than we do. But, we have better bourbon.

There is no universal agreement on how to pronounce "pecan" in The South, either. She would have corrected me same as you. I grew up in Georgia saying "PEE-can", same as many people in my family, but Mama always said "pi-KAHN". Never cared much for pecan pie myself.

Up here we say PEE-con; a PEE-can is something I bring into my tent with me.

Anyhow, happy birthday khackney and welcome to the funhouse.
