Spring forward heart attacks
Experts say the number of serious heart attacks increases 6 to 10% the first three workdays after the switch to Daylight Saving Time. Maybe it has something to do with morning work outs? Or, maybe it's just the added stress from the change in our body clocks.
What ever the reason, it's probably a good idea to take it easy as we make the transition to the new time.

It has to do with the "catecolimine surge", the morning gusher of biochemicals the takes us from sleep to wakefulness. Epinephrine is one of the better-known catecolimines.

Yet another reason why I dislike DST. I wish they'd leave the clocks alone. My chickens wake me up, not an alarm clock! They know what the real time is!

My opinion may change once I am able to retire, but for now I love DST because it gives me more time to ride and do other useful things after my hours of indentured servitude.

Too damn early for the switch, imho. I hate riding to work in the dark.
But those long evenings will be nice. I admit that one.

All of my summer evening group activities involve people that work during the day. Without DST many of these activities would not exist!

If a one hour time shift physicaly bothers anyone that much, then I imagine Shift Work would kill them in less than a week! Golly Gee Whiz!!

+1 - Got home and still had time to sneak in a short one before the visibility for drivers hits that twlight, "honest officer I didn't see him" stage.

Here in beautiful Arizona we do not observe DST. Folks here found that setting clocks one hour forward had no measurable effect on the total hours of sunlight.
Still to accomplish is the shift work moratorium.

^ And who rides in the afternoon in the summer? It's 110 outside then!
It's much easier to ride at 4:30 a.m. when it's only 85.

Being retired, means not being driven by time.....
My riding buddy, Jim, called about lunchtime (I was hungry) and suggested we go ride in about an hour.......
It worked out to an hour and a half (haircut time) but came off without a hitch.
Got about two hours in, on city streets, and noticed that almost all of the snow is gone.
It's supposed to be sunny, sometime tomorrow, and then again for the next 5 days, or so.
I suppose, that we will get up, sometime tomorrow, go riding when it warms up a little - (whatever time that is) ----- and then repeat it several times this week.
Life is GRAND!!! When does DST start, anyhow**********?

A little more information on the study.
The New England Journal of Medicine published the research conducted on heart attack victims in Sweden.
The study found women to be more at risk than men.
Those at risk: smokers and overweight folks (I know, big surprise there).
The risk of heart attacks is said to be reduced by 2% when we gain an hour in the fall.
I also love daylight saving time, especially on summer Fridays and enjoy the occasional post dinner ride in the evening.

Hmmmm.......maybe I shouldn't have gotten up at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, and then ridden up Fargo Street, the steepest hill (33%) in Los Angeles.
Oh, well. Maybe I'll think about this next year, that is, if I survive another day.

You gonna eat that?
Well I made it.
Rode to work- 17 miles into the wind.
After work, rode to a two-hour softball practice.
Rode home.
I'm bushed but at least I'm still alive.

I suppose I can see that. My early morning bike rides were always a bit more of a struggle than evening rides. With Indiana adopting DST a couple years ago, sadly my pre-work bike rides are a thing of the past.

Maybe it is mostly the office managers keeling over when their empolyees show up early for the first time in months.
