Rode my age today, first time!
64 miles, started out slow with no pep, felt tired. was only going to do 30 miles. As i went on i started gaining speed after about 15 miles. Got to Seal Beach, had a Danish and decaf and started back. Decided to Take the San Gabriel River bed back and just cruise. Well some guy past me going pretty fast on a red road bike, in just tennis shoes, shorts and button shirt which was fluttering in the wind. This was just before the cross over bridge where the Los Coyotes and San Gabriel split.
I crossed and he was about 300 yards in front of me. Stayed on the 42 ring, increased my cadence to 100 and went to lower cogs. Did not take me long to catch and pass him. I felt good, not tired and kept it up for 8 minutes, cadence at over 100 at times. This seemed to perk me up and kept up the good pace until the 45 mile mark. Thought what the hell, i will try for 64. Wind was blowing side ways at about 15 to 25 but i did not care. Started to bog down when this rider past me going into the wind, started following him going about 20mph. He was a crit 3 racer on his daily ride. Told him what i was trying so he paced me for about 5 miles until my turn around point to head for home. Went home and felt not tired or winded or sore. I rode 45 miles on Monday, 47 on Tuesday, rested on Wednesday. I will do 65 in May on my Birthday, I usually golf but will be on the bike this year.

Congrats. on the great ride! Isn't it amazing that sometimes the first few miles can be so difficult and then seemingly from no where we get supercharged and ride on for longer than we ever thought posible?

Way to go!
I love those rides when I surprise myself by doing more than I set out to do.

I do a few metrics each year- 100Kms- and I always ease myself into them First mile or so it just let the bike run then up to 5 just take it steady- 5 to 10 and I push a bit- but after that and I can push.
Nice ride but wheres- the pics? No bike or ride pics is bad enough- but you had a Danish and we can't see that either!!!
