My longest ever ride today - 56 miles

I'm tired now, but safely back home. Rode my Marin Fairfax 28 miles mostly along FM1462 West of Alvin, TX. Then turned around and rode 28 miles back. Luckily, there was a tailwind coming back!

Tailwinds should be required by law to be part of every ride back.

Congratulations on the long ride. :thumb:

Nice going. Is that your age, too?

cyclinfool 03-28-10 05:25 AM

Great job. You were lucky - I usually ride out with a head wind and then when I turn around so does the wind...
Is a metric century in your future?

don't forget to feed those legs some protein this week. don't push the recovery and don't forget the benefits of a hot soak with epsom salt! :-)

Great job! I hope that's your age so you reached that milestone, too.

I always try to plan my long rides according to the wind direction. Unfortunately, most of the good routes are east of me and of course the wind is usually out of the west.

Congratulations and welcome to the over 50 club.

Before you know you'll consider any ride less than 62 miles nothing more than a warm-up or waste of time, (ok, let me have it fellas).

As for the wind I personally love the wind. You just have to get use to going a little slower under the same power output. Just remember, wind builds character!

Congratulations on your record achievement.

Congratulations. Now do it again and again this year.

Outstanding! A sure way to ride longer distances is to do exactly as you did. Do you have any intentions of trying to do something even longer?

George 03-28-10 02:17 PM

If the winds there are anything like they are here, you did great.:thumb:

56 miles is good. Very good The road nazis act like it's a recovery ride but it's a long way. I don't even take many car trips that long anymore.

Sgt. Spillco 03-28-10 03:32 PM

You'll be amazed at how strong you get when doing rides over 50 miles. Keep up the good work and don't forget the chamois butter!

Thanks for all the congratulations!
I actually rode 3 miles/years past my age. Since my birthday is next month I may have to do it again.

The seat is one area that didn't bother me much. The muscles in the back of my neck got tired of holding my head up to look out in front. And at times my toes felt like they were falling asleep.
I actually did plan the ride based on the wind forecast. The winds were from the SSW and I was heading East on the way back.

And I do plan on longer rides eventually, as well as working on improving my average speed over the ride.

Fine business on your longest ride!

You plan yours like I plan mine. I hate riding back home, truck, starting point etc. into a headwind.
