Cherry Blossoms at peak
Took a 30 miler out into Virginia with a stop coming and going to see the Cherry Blossoms. The Tidal Bassin was a nut house but the blossoms were beautiful - mid 70s, sunny, just a perfect day.

Wow Spring is looking good in Virginia. Absolutely beautiful pics of what looks like a beautiful day. Blooming Cherry Blossoms always fill me with a certain optimism. Thanks for those

Our peak tree blooming is not quite here yet. The cherries and pears are in full bloom, but the azaleas and dogwoods aren't quite there yet. But they will peak soon, as will their unwelcome guest, pollen.

Boston's equivalent are the Magnolia trees along Comm Ave in the Back Bay. This past Saturday, the flowers were just breaking out of their buds, whereas the Magnolias had been in full bloom in Washington, about a week or so ahead of Boston. I'll have to check those trees tonight, and see how they survived the recent deluge. The pictures below were taken around their peak in 2007. It's a great harbinger of Spring, but even more fleeting than the fall foliage.
EDIT: I rode past the magnolias on Comm Ave this evening and they are still short of peak, maybe at least a week to go. So the botanical gap between DC and Boston appears to be at least two weeks.

Thanks for the pics. I rode down across Memorial Bridge, past the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials (they had my normal road turned into a 1-way, the WRONG way ), and then to Hains Point for a lap.
It was a zoo. I won't be doing that again till those darn blossoms are GONE

Boston also has some cherry trees along the Charles River. Haven't been in a while, wonder how they are doing.
I guess spring may come after all. Its a miracle every year
THANKS for sharing!

Sure is some pretty pictures. I was up in DC a few years ago and I made it a point to get back there again. There's just so much to see, you can't do it in a week.

I'm staying away from DC this weekend. We have enough cherry blossoms around this end that I'll be sneezing my head off enough anyway.

I rode to the Tidal Basin on the 31st, got off and walked around and then did a lap at Hains Point. If you ride early, you don't have the same traffic (of course it helped it was on a weekday). On the 2nd I rode through the Kenwood neighborhood of Bethesda where there are several square blocks of streets lined with cherry trees planted decades ago. Not as many people visit that area. Up there you also get magnolias and forsythia mixed in with the cherry trees. After our heavy snows this winter, I had wondered what the blossoms would be like. They looked just as good as my photos from last year.

We seem to be having a record year for pollen in Georgia this year. That's in a state that normally has absurdly high amounts of pollen in the Spring. While I do recall seeing a yellowish green haze in the air before during pollen season, this past weekend was the first time I saw clearly visible clouds of the stuff moving along the roads and fields. Allergy specialists should be able to re-spark the economy after a few weeks of this.
I am (so far) managing to get by OK on my usual regimen of Zyrtec and Nasarel with frequent irrigations of saline spray to keep the sinuses functioning.
