The picture of the "century virgins" is a hoot! Just shows that cycling is something people of any age can do -- and do for long distances.

Thanks for the tip.
I have bag baum and a pharmacy brand Diaper Rash Ointment 40% zink oxide. I like the diaper rash ointment it seems to work. With the incomtax refund I will be able to get some bibs and a real torch for the bike.

I added power bars and with the cammel back far frewer leg cramp problems. I did about 70 miles yesterday @ 8 mph (40 miles to destination to within 10 of home) with the Globe, before calling the wife for a pick up. All went well except for the last few miles. The clouds went away and the sun came out. My next leg was into the sun (west) and the traffic would not be able to see me. I am slowly learning how to manage energy, hydration and time.
Miller in Repo Man has nothing on me "The more I bike the more I like it"

Hi Jamesw2 - yes, bib shorts may help. May I also suggest chamois creme. I use Assos but there are several different brands and people even just use bag balm. You can check on Amazon. You can even bring a bit with you and reapply as needed. For longer rides this is a real plus.

+1 on the lubrication. I have switched to Bag Balm, first, because it's cheaper. Second, I don't use much. I like it fine. I still have part of a tube of Chamois Butt'r, which I use sometimes. And it comes in little 1-use packets, which are handy on the road. On the first day of the 7-day AIDS/LifeCycle, which I am doing for the 6th time this year, everyone is very shy about applying butt butter. By about day 3, it's like applying sunscreen.

I would like to wish everyone in the MS 150 Houston TX version good luck. I see raineycamp is from Austin.

Also I would like to ask what is the trick to applying the Bag Baum discreetly while on the road? Hee Hee
If nothing else the question should have some comic value.

After first application it is good for 20 miles that is wearing modifyed street clothes. ( cotton underware cut across the crotch so they are like a loin cloth. with polyester boxing shorts as a top layer. I know that combination won't put me on the best bicycle swag list. Hee Hee. I use suspenders to hold up the shorts)
Did I hear someone say "Good Grief Man"?
Oh Yea let me tell you how i solved the cycling shoe issue I went to Walmart and bought the $7.00 peddels with the adapter. (so they will stick out more) and a pair of $7.00 shoes like this http://www.zappos.com/crocs-cayman-unisex-khaki. They are super lite and have great ventilation and, with the peddels, provide my flat feet with a platform to distribute the weight. They are suprisilgly tough even on dirt roads.
It's not bad as having me to sell my big lawnmower, power washer and weed eater to get a new bike. Only to find out about the N + 1 rule. Now my back up string trimmer mower has broken. It's time to buy a goat ?( Yha Think Din-o-zo"(NCIS) Now I have to ride 100 miles "This isn't a vacation it's a quest"

And to Mojo Slim and to all the riders that ride for charity THANKS. One never knows what fate will bring them.
