The Beater Bike is Complete

Here is a pic of my recently completed Surly Pacer. Built up of mostly 105 components taken off my CAAD9 although the saddle's around 35 years old. Weighs about 22 lbs as seen here. I have 4 rides on it, very smooth although I have to admit I've ridden it on nothing but smooth roads!

Looks pretty nice to be called a "beater".

Maybe we should come up with an alternate word for "nice bikes" that aren't the "main bike".

You are right; probably a bit of a misnomer as I think it will become the main go-to bike; the one I'll pull down whenever the next ride comes up.

Nice. You should bring it down to our April Fools Ride Saturday.

Yup, that's no beater. When I hear the word "beater", I imagine an old rusted Huffy.

That's a sweet bike.

Not painted with a spray can, so not a beater. Very nice lines to it too, I must say.

I can see calling it a beater. Used parts on a bargain (but very well designed) frame. It's the kind of bike you can take on days and to places you wouldn't want to take your most pristine showpiece bike but still have a good ride. Whatever you call it, it looks like a good one.

You must be keeping pretty limber, yamura. Those are some pretty low handlebars.

The position is pretty close to my '82 Colnago & CAAD9 but a bit longer reach. The top tube's fairly long; remind you of a certain Bridgestone RB-1?

Yes. As I recall, the Pacer geometry is very close to the RB-1. But my bars are only about 2" below the saddle.

Same here, that doesn't look like any beater to me. In fact it's pretty nice.
