Ahhhhh!!!
I've been riding for six weeks so far this season and have logged a bit over 600 miles. I always wonder.... Have I trained enough? Will I have what it takes when it really counts?
Well I'm pleased to report that I have and I do. As I sprinted past my 'Special Place' this afternoon trying to beat the approaching rain shower, I thought that I saw signs of life inside. Could it really be opening for business? Are we that far along into the nice weather seasons already? The weather cleared up around supper time and my craving was getting very intense. I had to take the bike back and see if it is really open. 5:30 pm is a very busy time out on the roads that I needed to travel on. Everyone's in a hurry to get home or to meet up with friends. Add to the scurrying traffic the drivers' propensity to be yakking on their cell phones and texting their friends and it gets darn right scarey out there. In these situations my goal is to be passed by as few cars as posible by sprinting from traffic light to traffic light. The Tour Easy seems well suited for this type of riding. The long steel frame absorbs a lot of road imperfections, it's very stable, and it is quick. Three miles of 25mph sprints between stoplights brought me to my destination. It is open for business. The Ice Cream Hut is open for business. More good news, a medium sized Frozen Custard still costs only $3.50! http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r...e/IMG_2737.jpg I had the strength and stamina needed to get there quickly. I have prepared suficiently. Life is good. As time passes and the sun sets later in the evening I can take less busy routes and have ample daylight between dinner and dark, but for the short term I'll be doing a three mile sprint at least once a week! :) |
I have to say you just like my younger brother white beard and all. He to rides a bike buts its a Harley. I have been out riding a lot because of the nicer weather and the Dairy Queen next town over from just opened for the season MMMMmmm. My names Lennie also but with an ie instead of an y. Tell me you got a brother named Mike and freak me out. :)

But are you ready for PIE! I think you need to train more of you are going to take on that challenge. You might need to take a trip to Dino BBQ just to see if you really have what it takes.

I'll participate in the Rochester Area Recumbent Enthusiasts' (R.A.R.E.) Rare2K challange on June 26th. It starts at Hamlin Beach, runs along the lake to the Genesee River and then upstream to the Dino BBQ for lunch. Then along the canal to Greece, north to the lake and back to Hamlin. I'm planning on doing twice my age on that ride as its a week after my B-day! If that doesn't prepare me for Pie Day, I'm a lost cause!! :D |

Recumbents seem like cheating.
Yes, I'm jealous. I had a hilly 27 miler on my "DF" and my back hurts. |

far out man. my kids have been to our local dairy but I have yet to get my inaugural sorbet. maybe this week after my sons baseball practice
