We Need More Signs Like This

I was out for a 50 mile ride today and came across these signs. I never see signs like this. I give the Police credit for putting it there. There should be more them out there. :thumb:

It's a good start, now it should be about 10 times the size.

I used to live in Newton, Newburyport, and Byfield - not too far away. From this police log I think I'd enjoy living there:

May 1
9:57 a.m. A past hit-and-run at Lowell Street and the rotary was reported.
12:17 p.m. A minor bicycle accident occurred on Lowell Street. A bicycle ran into a truck and scratched the truck. There was no personal injury.
1:50 p.m. Patrol assisted the Fire Department at the scene of a medical emergency at Foss Field.
2:13 p.m. A 911 hang-up call from an Autumn Lane residence was investigated and confirmed accidental.
2:50 p.m. A greyhound was reported in the roadway at South Street and Wildwood Drive; the Dog Officer was notified.
2:58 p.m. Patrol investigated a burglar alarm from a Robbins Drive residence. The situation appeared secure.
3:09 p.m. Patrol investigated a two-car vehicle accident on Bedford Road. There was no personal injury.
4:17 p.m. A single car accident occurred at Bedford Road and Foss Field. The vehicle turned over and the operator, a Reading woman, was transported to the hospital. (See story.)
7:08 p.m. Patrol assisted the Fire Department on Page Brook Road at the scene of an electrical fire.
7:51 p.m. Patrol investigated a burglar alarm at a School Street residence and determined it was accidental.

I see your point. When is was today there were a lot of bicyclers on the road on Lowell Street. I had never been down Lowell Street before today I can see why there were a lot of bicyclers there its a nice road to ride on.

Now who are the signs aimed at. Car drivers ---or Cyclists?

Not tongue in cheek as I have to drive in a city (Well a very large town that is called a city) and the standard of a few cycle riders leaves a lot to be desired. And cars have learnt to stay away from bikes as they have their own lanes- and Traffic cameras are everywhere.

And the position of that sign- Car drivers won't see it.

I think stapfam is right, those signs seem to be aimed at cyclists at least as much as drivers. And probably for good reason.

Not sure who the sign is meant for - it does appear that it's cyclists.

Here is the one we need more of:

You get what you pay for.

I'm thinking that temporary sign couldn't have cost very much.

I would give my business to that bank. :thumb:

This is from John Galloway:

Part of a drivers test should be to have the erstwhile motorist stand on a road with his eyes closed, not allowed to move, and have a car approach him from behind at 50 MPH and miss him by 6 inches. It would give motorists an appreciation of what even law-abiding cyclists experience.

As well as construction workers

I think its meant for both. Hey just having it put up by the Police is a good thing. The town I live in it would be the Police who would run a cyclist over not just someone talking on their cel phone or just not paying attention.
