Today I'm 50+ and 50+

I "qualified" by age back in March. But today, for the first time, I rode 50 miles in one go.

I'm not fast like all you racers so it took me a good 3 1/2 hours. I feel very satisfied but my butt is killing me!

I'm glad I can ride my age now. If I wait much longer it'll take me all day!

I got news for you - 50miles 1st time solo 3.5 hrs is a very good time - rock on :thumb:

Now for your next trick - bag the metric.

Congratulation on The 50 and The 50.
Get ready for a 75 mile ride.

I considered stretching it to a metric century, but decided it was time to turn around (25 miles out, 25 back). When I got to 75km (very close to the end) my legs went numb. Has anyone else here experienced that? I had no trouble finishing but it was bizarre and I couldn't summon any more speed after that.

Metric Century (62 mi) then 75 miles then a Century! Piece of Cake! Or, preferably, Pie!

Congrats on both milestones.

To my way of thinking, it isn't how fast you do the ride but how much you enjoyed it that counts!

+1, I couldn't have said it better!

excellent, way to go!!

In regard to the 'numbness' problem, you've obviously pinched off a couple of nerves and stuff which will come back after a little while (usually a good walk around clears that up).. I've noticed the longer you ride the more irritating little tingly numbness things start appearing in different parts of the body due to the repetitive strain of long distance cycling, these of course start to clear up once your off the bike. The more you do long distance the less they will start to appear, although they never completely go away but the health benefits of cycling far outweigh these annoying little problems. Riding in a car that length of time is much worse for your cardio vascular system but on the bike it'll love you for it. :)

Are you going to work up to a century??

Congrats! :thumb:

My 51 mile ride yesterday took about 4 hours, so if you think you're slow...

I stand and applause your accomplishment. Fifty miles is a nice accomplishment. Now keep moving forward, and you'll soon be posting your century report.

I second Metric Man's emoticons. Good job. Now go out and ride more. ;)

Congrats. I turned 50 in April and have been working towards that goal. Started riding on my birthday. I can do 25 pretty easily now so I am sure 50 is not far off. It's good to hear the success story.
