Why do you start your message with "So"?
Yes! Why do so many members begin their messages with "So"?
Or "Ok"? And "Ok, so..." really annoys me. Read the sentence without those words in front! It makes better sense without "Ok" and "So"
While I'm at it, why do some members write like they have a grade six education? My spelling isn't perfect, but at least I try. What happened to punctuation?
And what is with all the acronyms? LBS and IMHO, or preferably IMO, are pretty self evident, but I am at a loss to understand about half the acronyms used. Does using these cryptic abreviations mean you are smarter than me? Or does it make you a member in an elite group? Are there "Those Who Know!" and then, "there are the rest".
You are not communicating if you can't be understood.
That's my grumbling and complaining off my chest.
Sometimes it is good to vent.

So, is that it?
Anything else you'd like to share?
IMHO, you could use some TLC.

Vent as much as you like-and I understand your point.
But if you are going to get upset about the way someone writes on a posting- I wonder how you would feel if you could hear them talk? I speak with a South London Accent that in many eyes- or ears- is a "Common" accent. By common in this sense I mean Low education and mental capacity. The low Mental capacity may be there- but The education has been good.
Main thing here is that we enjoy cycling. We communicate by writing and some of us are not as articulate as we should be. If that means that someone uses poor grammar- makes spelling mistakes- or has to write in a manner that they are comfortable with- then I'm OK with that. At least we are communicating.
But the Acronyms- Most of here have an LBS- (Local Bike shop) and refer to it often enough to write LBS. Same when referring to Heart Rate. It is easier to write HR-MHR AVR etc.
So I can understand your point but most of us here are just cyclists. We may not have a grasp of the written or Spoken word as much as some of the better educated but The main thing is the cycling- Not the writing about it.

While the OP may be a bit finicky on this subject, I can relate some. I get ticked when I get an e-mail message from my over 30 child that writes in that text message style you know the one such as cul8tr or some crap like that. Its a natural extension of the texting society we are a part of. I also think in business a lot of acronyms spill out into daily use. Give the man a break or he might HTFU and KYA.

Given the conversational tone of the 50+ Forum, or at least the attempt at such, it would seem appropriate and desirable to start sentences in a less than "formal" way.

You should watch some tech shows and podcasts, its as if there is a requirement to answer every question beginning with the word "so".

As for the acronyms, though, you're flat wrong. Every job, sport or activity that I know of uses verbal shortcuts--S&L, IPO, ACL, rpm, IRA, mph. It's not cycling's job to communicate with you. If you want to participate, it's your job to learn the vernacular.

I would strongly recommend the original poster stay out of the 26 and the 178. The 41 and the 33 might not be much better.
I have noticed the 37 generally has above average member spelling skills. Nice polite folks, too.
FWIW...

You people are so intolerant and insensitive. Here is a topic that really upsets the OP and all we can do is sit around and ridicule him. All of you should be ashamed of yourselves.
